it takes lots of agony and tears!!!! /j

color picking is the most important step in my process. after i set a base, i go with a whole range of shades (i tend to use bright, saturated shades) and adjust the hue (minimally) as i go along. i like to desaturate the colors to B/W once i finish rendering to check that they contrast well.

technique varies on the art style i’m going for, but generally, referencing images of faces helps when you’re figuring out where shadows/highlights are!
