Hi! Do you two have any tips on distressing satin?
Satin is a very thin material – so whatever you do to it its gonna get distressed REAL FAST. No matter what you do, do it slowly and build up.
And there are many ways of weathering fabrics – it really depends on what your trying to do. If you want to make something look old, you can soak it in tea or water down RIT dye. If you are trying to make it look dirty, I recommend acrylic paints, inks, or Rit dye (both extremely watered down) And applying it in the creases of your fabric with a sponge brush. For my Elizabeth’s shirts and skirts – I misted spray paints over everything. Light greys on the shirt to look like dirt, and a gold/light brown spray paint on the blue skirt to make it look like dust. When dark materials get dirty they fade and get lighter. When light materials get dirty they get darker.
