My artistic practice is a multifaceted unfolding complexity. It is a therapy, a spiritual devotion, a playful experiment with ways of knowing that precede reason, logic, or even meaning. It is an improvisational tangling with material, with the formless through form, with the unfathomable reality that anything exists at all. It is a finger pointing at the moon. I am the Magi, the High Priestess. I am the Lion. This Tiger is a Wolf. I am swallowed by the Whale that we are. Here is what I know. We are surrounded by the fruitful darkness and we will let the great mystery shine through us as long as we can muster in whatever way we can at whatever scale at whatever volume, one long scream. Or whisper. It is no matter.

John Backstrom, multimedia guru:

"I'll be using a combination of pre-rendered digital imagery and live-manipulated visuals to create a reactive video environment for the performers in Filthy / Mockingbird. Live camera input, 3D models, cultural artifacts, and glitched recordings of the dancers will layer upon each other, blending different amounts of truth, or authenticity, relative to what is actually happening onstage. In short, the performance will inform the visuals which will contextualize the performance."
