You can handle these small plants by their leaf. They’re strong enough.
Plunk then into the pot.
Pat them down, give a slight watering, and keep them in the sun (or under a grow light).
I think this is the biggest circus flower I’ve seen yet. On my own yard, at least...
“Pro Tip”
Put your potting soil in a large bucket and water it in before putting in small pits to plant in. It helped me avoid overwatering the seedlings.
Some people boil off sap indoors. The amount of steam coming off the pans here is why we don’t. We save our sap collection and boil off once weekly as the weather allows. We do several gallons at once, all day.
Here you can see the sap turn into syrup through colour progression in the pans. Well, the back one is almost visible...
Aaaand we’re on to the second boil of the season! All hail maple syrup!
Fury two images are part of the indoor “pre-heat” process. Plenty of seating if the weather is nippy. Outdoors is the main boil setup with three pans. The foremost pan never gets any added to it except what was boiled down from the pans behind it. The pre-heated sap goes in those. Up close you can see a major colour difference in sap to syrup.
There’s nothing like a melting pile of snow to remind you that, yes it will go away, and, YES YOU DO need to start indoor seeds. I mean, look at all that sunshine.
I have... so many... seeds... seeds from this year, last year, some previous years (which may or may not grow, but take a chance on ‘em anyway). Hooray for reusing things! Cardboard trays lined in plastic are good, muffin plastics are good, tin trays are good... all is good! When the seedlings get big enough, then we’ll give them individual pots.
This year, something new! I bought a beehive.
It’s all flat packed and I have it on good authority that I can decorate with woodburning.

This is it. This is why I’ve been saving content from you guys. It’s only November, and we’ve already had this much snow. Not much I can do about gardening-specific posts until... March or April? Even then, it’ll all be indoor seed-starting stuff. This is where throwbacks and adventure come in! And winter is a SPLENDID time to do planning. Drawing. Preparing for next season. And maybe some skiing or snowshoeing through nature.
‘Tis a garden knot is what it is! Daffodils for the loops and lines, and various alliums, crocus and sundry whatnot for the fill! The centre of the knot is empty for a singular statement plant. Garden knots were highly popular in the Middle Ages through to the Industrial Revolution, when nature had to be controlled. This was the case in Europe, anyway, as far as I have researched. The specific designs and fashions changed, of course, but I wanted a small piece of history in my garden.
These are some spring bulbs I got before the ground froze. Most of them are planted by now and under snow. I’ve been saving up a lot of pictures to schedule over winter so I have something to share during the cold, ungardenable months. Like this month! Snow came early! Stay tuned for the planting design I used.
If I had posted these the day I took them... I might remember which caption I intended to use. These are severely late; the burning bush you see in the background? It’s now very very red and the roses are dropping their petals. Oops.
