GABRIEL SUMMERS.
VULCAN.
SELF-STYLED AFTER THE ROMAN GOD OF FIRE.
KINGBREAKER, PLANET-KILLER, LOST BROTHER.
a study in fragmented personhood, slavery, power and its costs, the "mad king" archetype, tragic villain & potential redemption.
independent roleplay blog for a personal interpretation of gabriel summers, a.k.a. vulcan, from the x-men franchise/the marvel universe, but unaffiliated with any specific fandom.
there will be plenty of triggering content ahead, so please read the rules beneath and the profile page before interacting. timeline here!
rules/guidelines specific to this blog:
i am not gabriel, gabriel is not me. ic =/= ooc, and if you don't have a good grasp on that, i humbly request that you just don't follow. that said, he is a deeply flawed character with many, many issues and a great deal to atone for. he has, after all, killed entire planets during a galactic war and has done heinous shit.
mun to mun communication is VERY MUCH appreciated. with the nature of x-men and its canon, with telepaths and time travelers and the sort, it's much easier to talk behind the scenes about what your character knows or can do. gabriel is by default an overpowered character and i will still ask first before presuming what he can or can't do for your comfort. i expect the same.
in that same vein, keep in mind this is an unstable omega level energy manipulator with a gigantic kill count and the capacity of frying people with his mind. there are verses i write him more sociable, but he still has a certain threshold of offense and aggression he can take before he lashes out with prejudice. unlike the generally x-affiliated, he has killed and will kill in self-defense. PLEASE keep that in mind. i am fine with conflict! just... be mindful of the level of danger he poses.
i will not tolerate ooc ableism towards him. yes, he is known as the mad king. yes, he is called maaaaany terrible things within canon and i understand if your character spouts that sort of rhetoric, but if i sniff any sort of ableism from the person behind the character (you, dear reader), that's a fast hard block. as a neurodivergent person who has experienced psychosis, i am PRETTY strict about this particular thing.
i'm equinox, more often known as nox, anonbinary fella edging their 30s that goes by they/them. i'm brazilian, chronically ill and neurodivergent, so you can expect my activity to be all over the place. you can also find me at @apotheotica and @redvenante.
Anger is the emotion that drowns out all the others as he listens. "Okay." Krakoa shivers under him and Tom sends up a plant to wrap around his ankle in an attempt to keep him calm. He focuses on the vice grip. "We'll circle back to the no childhood thing. I'm not being a cunt, I promise, but why not an adult? I mean, one with the brain fully formed and some sort of emotional regulation? Why a teenager? Why teenager slaves? Why at the most emotionally unstable time of your life?" Each new question has more bite, more teeth. "Okay." Nose scrunches and the vine squeezes harder, and he reaches down to pet it.
"I don't know Lex very well. Tot would have given you a speech that lasted forever and got mad if you zoned out on him." A tired little half smile. "Are any of the people alive that hurt you? I can break bones with my mind slowly so they suffer, but Logan says that's not what good people do."
"i don't know. i never asked. i suppose it is because we are more malleable when young, and i was a meek child, back then." there is no anxiety or sadness in his voice, which in itself may be strange: he seems very matter-of-factly, calm as if he is relaying a normal part of routine. "i was the only human slave they had where i was kept, and i was not well-informed."
he can't read emotion well, so he can see anger, but not... the level of it.
"alex has reasons to hate me," he leaves at that. "i am not close to scott so i can't say. and i assume they are alive. i was emperor among the shi'ar, majestor as they call it, and i had been far too busy to seek my old keepers out. the kin crimson are... elusive, and i had more pressing matters at hand."
there is a pause.
"i am not a very good person myself, so i would not concern myself with posturing."
immensely hilarious that i started writing gabe like oh he hates telepaths. charles ruined his view of them just wiping him out of existence / trying to alter his memories.
now on this blog he is a catnip to them in very nice ways. very summers of him.
"Apparently parents are supposed to take care of you and love you? They don't yell or hit. I think some kids didn't learn how the day is going to go based on what footsteps sound like." A shrug. "Miss Paige says we can heal our inner children and take our experiences to make sure no one ever feels like we did?"
are they oversharing? are they supposed to overshare?
okay.
he can do that.
"i did not have parents. my mother died when i got ripped out of her belly by emperor d'ken, then i was sent to slave farms. which... if i am not wrong by the memories i was given by another telepath, means i was turned from a newborn into a teenager so i would be useful to the imperium."
there's a pause.
"oh yes, i killed my father during my marriage ceremony to my now ex-wife. in front of one of my brothers, in fact. it felt a little cathartic. i don't think alex feels the same about the incident, though."
the funniest thing about gabriel being here is that he isn't the worst candidate when it comes to the quiet council. possibly not even in THIS three panel section.
(someone should point out that he was wiped out of all shi'ar history books for a reason, though.)
❛ Honestly, between y' boyfriend's shit French an' talkin' t' you, I'd probably welcome it. Can't promise Sinister didn't put a boobytrap in dere for y' or dat the death seed's inactive, but go on 'head. ❜
suddenly he deflates. it was the boobytrap thing, of course. that was not fun. dying wasn't fun either, but most mutants at this point have had that rite of passage, so eh.
learning the guy who made him be a sleeper agent was also the guy obsessed with his family tree through a long, long plan of absurd cloning processes was... interesting.
someone needs to tell gabriel it's not normal to tell people he can turn off their brain. not very cool, not very nice, not at all conductive to having friends or living in civilized society.
"No, and I wouldn't let you. You really don't understand what I've been through. Miss Paige made me go see a therapist and the first one I saw cried and quit. I haven't been back to therapy since. I don't talk about what I experienced in that house because other people get upset about it like it happened to them."
a pre requisite for being omega level in this corner of mutantkind is just being really really fucked up, i think. extra fucked up sauce to make up for the nifty powers.
@ehstyl asked: "if anyone says you are anything like your father, i will have their head." very, very matter-of-factly.
send "you're just like your father..." for my muse's reaction to yours saying that.
David frowns and opens his mouth to say something, only for the words to die in his throat. Mouth closes again, jaw working in its sockets. He takes in a breath through his nose and then a smile spreads across his sharp features. It softens his face and brings warmth to his mismatch eyes.
"I really should be tellin' y' not to do that," he says, something proud in his tone. "But I'm way too taken by the sheer protectiveness o' this. ... Never had someone so willin' to fight for me. ... Thanks, love."
There was a lot of pull, at least in her mind, that came from his brothers signing off on him. As much as she butted heads with them, there were years of trust between them. So she was willing to give Vulcan a chance. It would be hypocritical of her not to.
That didn't mean she was okay with letting him see her cry or anything. Pain, actual pain that was scrapes and bruises, wasn't something she experienced too often thanks to her abilities. So her tolerance for large amounts of it wasn't the greatest. She grimaced as he worked, determined not to make a sound. When he finished, she allowed herself to finally breathe.
"Thanks. Ah really do appreciate you... you know, not letting me bleed out. But..." She paused, pondering the right way to ask her question without offending him. "... How'd you do it? It's jus' that Ah know ain't exactly somethin' your brothers can do, so I'm curious."
alex had certainly only really signed off because scott had asked, and because there had been reassurances he no longer seemed to be anything like the tyrant from another time. it is partially true, but... frankly, gabriel himself is unsure if he deserves the consideration.
"i can manipulate bioelectricity and other biological patterns in energy," he explains, calm enough as he pulls away from her. "unlike my brothers, my abilities extend to all sorts of energy, even magic. so i can do a number of tricks they cannot. i can manipulate their powers, on top of being... technically immune."
he does not mean to sound like he is bragging, but it is true his powers function on a different level.
"all i have to do to manage healing is a bit of focus on the cells that need repair, so i can feed them the proper amount of energy to fast forward them into new tissue."
