I’m doing a graphic novel for college work at the moment and you have to be my biggest inspiration, if you have any tips I’d love to hear them ^^

im really honored…!!! uuuuuhhhhhhh i suppose i can share some of the tips i give whenever someone approaches me about this…

i feel like its easy to get stuck on things like paneling and page layout, so even if your goal is to have clever or artistic paneling and stuff, i think its best to primarily make sure that the layout and flow of the page makes sense to you… like dont overthink it too much, theres nothing wrong with just a few boxes rather than something crazy. also run your pages by your friends to see if the flow makes sense if youre unsure.

i like to take inspiration from a lot of manga like witch hat atelier and houseki no kuni. i was actually rereading hnk recently and it occurred to me just how much ive like, absorbed that paneling and manga style into my own art subconsciously lol… also i think even just reading witch hat atelier is something that can improve your art and im so serious. 1 look at the art makes me want to push myself infinitely

uuuuummmmmmm…. make something awesome…… ummm…. think of the ways you can make your art that cant quite be replicated with a different medium…. make sure the speech bubble flow is intuitive without making people search and think about what should be read next…. if you’re looking to tell a longer story dont be like me and put like 2 lines on each page, im just really picky about how my comics are paced (and theyre always relatively short) (and they’re fan comics which means they’re expected to be read with the context of the original source material) (basically if you have to shove a lot of exposition in there its ok and normal)

umm and take breaks and dont rush yourself… if you or anyone has any more specific questions about various things, dont hesitate to ask…!
