        Sparring had its benefits, even as a small practice and friendly competition without the seriousness of blows and wounds true training permitted, while keeping the Queen on her toes and entertained in the momentary stop of their journey. She was surrounded by her knights in the field, both seen and unseen, while the playful match was open for any passerby to witness or join. Eirene saw the new company as her present partner ducked and tended to a hilt jab to his chest, and she spun to face them, pointing the sword in their direction. “Why don’t you join? The thrill of being involved is surmountable to watching.”

finally an intro~

eirene was the biological heir to the former rulers of Dystrka, and originally princess by birth. she was raised in the beliefs of the Mother, as well as believing pagans to be abominations exploiting gifts not meant for them. 

those beliefs were shattered when she took up the throne, in her early twenties, and understood what horrors were faced by the people and their fears. and since her coronation, she has ensured any dispute is fairly handled instead of allowing the blames immediately fall on pagans.

she firmly believes in the wisdom of her kingdom and the lesson it teaches. that is, she does not believe in war for the sake of it, or being brutish in the name of victory. she believes that everyone deserves a fighting chance as well as the knowledge to defend themselves. 

unfortunately, she also not fond of the ways other rulers manage their kingdoms. to her, the methods are frail and weak, or are otherwise cruel and unfair to their people. the recent assassination, the reappearance of dragons, and the rise of the lion & serpent society are only reaffirming someone must take action, and she will be the one who does.

her plans are to take over the other kingdoms, though she has not told anyone of these intentions, not her advisers or anyone else close to her. 

that being said, she ensures her appearances are kept in a particular image: a strong, female ruler, calm in harshest and frightening situations and a leader to guide her people, especially if it’s into battle.

         His head bowed to the Queen ( his own not too far down the path with the rest of their company ) and pressed a few steps into the clearing. Long ago he was more akin to sparring and sword duels, people were more willing to try and beat down a knight as opposed to a champion ( though one would imagine the appeal of the latter would be greater ). Benji’s lips pressed into a thin line, “Begging your pardon, Majesty, but I don’t think it would be much of a fair fight. You’re far more lithe than myself, your agility easily trumps my strength.”

           She smiled kindly and nodded to him, taking steps forward as she lowered the weapon. "Oh, I don’t believe that for a second. I know the odds of advantages, and even a fox can’t always outrun a hunting hound. It’s your prerogative to politely reject again, but I fear my company is already tiring against said agility. I’m too familiar with how to exhaust them.” Glancing over those who already participated, her statement rang truer than she teased. She knew their movements too well to be surprised, and more challenging opponents were reserved for private training. And even if it was meant to be light practice, Eirene's tenacity caused bruises to bleed. “A new contender would be appreciated, for their sake and mine.”

        “I cannot answer your question if I don’t have an answer to it. Stop demanding me it of me,” the King finally snaps and he dismisses the serving boy with a wave of his hand. The next time he will have him thrown in the stocks, he decides. He sighs, looking down at his fingers as they lace together, and upon hearing footsteps, he looks up, brows furrowing. “If you’ve come to ask about dragons and whatnot, you’re wasting your time…”

        "Oh dear,” she muttered offering a curt, closed-lip smile. How comforting it was to know other monarchs were fraying at the seams over the smallest of topics, even letting the public see their vexation and defeat before any attempts of action. “I knew I should have announced my arrival but I’ve always believed public fanfare is meant more for accomplishments than presence. If I had realised I was wasting my time...” She let the sentence linger folding her hands and resting them on her left hip.
