Also, if anyone is wondering how my spring break has gone so far-

I got a bunch of errands done on the first day and then S came home with a really bad case of food poisoning so that has consumed my break so far. 

He is feeling a lot better now and everything worked out really well with me already being off of work and having all the convenient adulting things to make life easier like a washer and dryer, carpet shampooer etc...not to get too graffic lol. This was definitely the sickest that either one of us has ever been in the almost nine years that we have been together and I’m so glad he is on the upswing.  

Now for one more appointment on Monday and then vacation prep before we leave for our mini vacay on Tuesday!

It’s day 3 of spring break for me and I basically have forgotten my job even exists. It’s a lovely bliss to be in but I don’t know how I am going to pull myself out of it next Sunday night.

Snow/Cold Day #4 tomorrow

We were off Monday for snow (got a lovely covering, our first real one since before Christmas) and the past two days for cold, as well as tomorrow. I was supposed to be observed tomorrow morning and already had the majority of the pre-observation paperwork complete but I’m not mad about sleeping in again. This week has been a lovely mix of leisurely working from home, making breakfast (which normally only happens on the weekend), S working from home and drinking wine/watching Netflix.  

Tomorrow I am refocusing myself on weight loss and preparing to knock out the rest of the school year. Between September and the end of December, I lost 30 pounds and my goal for February-June is to lose 20 pounds. I know it will fly by and I know I can do it. Two of the major work things I did over this ‘break’ were enter all my winter assessment data and map out my lesson plans for the rest of the school year. Both things are major projects (more annoying and tedious than difficult) and will be so nice to already have done once work starts again.

I feel like I might quite teaching after my first year.. I feel like your last post almost every day and i feel like this job is ruining me even though I am trying so hard.

Nobody ever tells you this, but honestly the first year is the hardest you’ll ever have. I almost quit teaching in my first year too. I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I was in a hostile work environment and my coworkers were constantly leaving me out and making me feel like a burden just for asking questions I thought were reasonable. It took a switch to a much different school with much more supportive environment before I finally began to feel confident in my abilities as an educator.

Please know that there are so many people here to help support you, including me. So many of us, if not all of us, have been in your shoes. We really have. Teaching is one of the most under appreciated jobs in America right now and it causes so much stress. Please know that my ask box is always open for questions, or vent sessions, or comments. Let us help you, anon or not. You’re never alone ❤️

I felt EXACTLY the same way my first year teaching and am so happy that I stuck it out and found a school and age group that I love spending my time with. It does get better!!

Our furnace went out today...

and I’m having surgery on Wednesday. The landlord couldn’t get anyone to come out tonight and offered to put us up in a hotel before someone comes tomorrow. We chose to tough it out in order to stay in the comfort of our own home but it’s really too cold to do basic things like the dishes or cooking and I don’t even want to think about the nightmare that would be staying in a hotel after just having had surgery. At least if we have to do that, I should know tomorrow so I can at least pack ahead of time.
