What is a lesson that YOU think every G10 student around the world should be taught?

There are so many lessons that G10 students should learn so I'm going to put them in bullets:

1) To make good choices while also allowing enough freedom to learn from our own mistakes.

2) To respect others, to have good manners and the ability to tell the truth.

I picked those because 1. respect for others covers kindness. Respect for oneself shows self-control and self-worth. Things like teasing and bullying happen in the absence of respect. 2. Manners make people reasonable and thoughtful person. 3. telling the truth makes you a trustful person which will be helpful in school especially with your teachers and friends. Finally making choices and learn our mistakes is a path to success which what high school students should focus on.

I think that justice is all about treating everyone equally, justice isn’t about preferring a race over another, or a religion over another. When justice is served equally, the society won’t have any problems like killing and stealing, because when everyone is treated equally, no one would get away with doing bad things.

I totally agree with Salem's point of view about justice, as i have the same opinion about the importance of justice in specific things such as crimes increasing because there is no justice, people are losing their rights because justice is what makes the good and bad of a person. However justice changes depending on the situation or person facing the injustice or the reason this person was treated unfairly, this a point of view i have that some people will agree with or disagree.

What is your overall point of view of justice? Has it changed from before we started the unit? If so, how? write 2 paragraphs

My overall point of view of justice that justice balances the world, what controls the right and wrong, justice gives people their rights without judging them on their color, nationality, religion, gender etc. Without justice the world will be a horror movie where criminals walk around without being punished and innocent people pay the price and end up being victims of an awful crime, Martin Luther king, jr said: “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”.

My point of view has changed from before we started the unit because i didn't know how bad it would be if theres no justice. All i knew is to stop racism, discrimination and etc. But now i learned a lot, and I feel very bad for the people around the world. For example: the inequality of how Palestinian people live and how we live and its not wrong to fight for justice. For this reason we should thank our god for the blessings he gave us.

Reputation is a very important thing that we need in our society, because it is what the person is in the eyes of people that don’t know the person, but ofcourse a reputation is not always true or reliable, that’s why we shouldn’t use it to judge anyone without meeting them because you might hear things about this person that might be false. How Reputation impacted my life as a person in a society that likes to talk more than listen, people judge me before talking to me or even meeting me that’s why they get the wrong picture of me as a person.

Everyone cares about their reputation, no one wishes to have a bad reputation, we all want to have a good one. So for me reputation matters, and I always try to keep this good reputation in everything, like I care about the way that I look, and I always want to be good looking, smart and kind, so I can be special. And I always make sure to do the right thing to keep having a good reputation.

Doaker: "So Robert Sutter asked Mr. Nolander to see if maybe he could trade off some of is niggers for that piano."

Doaker's grandmother and father were traded for the piano. The fact that human beings could be exchanged for an object shows the humiliation of slavery. When Doaker tells this story from the Charles family history, the piano becomes a symbol of the family's history of enslavement and thats why the piano is very important for the family especially Bernice.

1) Do you like tumblr? Why/why not? Do you prefer a different social media website? What website could also be used to do this type of school assignment? 2) Was this tumblr assignment good, or would you have preferred writing your responses in a journal in class time? Why/why not? 3) What changes would you make to this assignment for next time?

1) Yes I like tumblr because its a fun social media where you can share everything showing to the world around you. Its a fun place to put things where you can learn from others or where people learn from you. Also because its easier and better than doing it by hand as in writing it in your copybook. Its a new thing in our school life and its great. Honestly Tumblr was the best choice the English department made and theres no other social media that I prefer than Tumblr for this assignment. Another website or social media that is similar to tumblr for this type of assignment is Twitter and Instagram.

2) Yes this Tumblr assignment was way better than writing it on a journal because its easier for the teacher to grade instead of carrying all these heavy books and grading them. Also its fun to open a computer than opening a book, am I right? Also because its terrifying to right all these answers with our handwriting, we will not feel our fingers anymore!

3) Honestly there is no changes that I want to do for next time. Its been a great assignment it was fun and no changes should be made.

I choose this song for act 1 scene 1 and for the end of act 1 scene 2. For scene 1 Boy Willlie was trying to convine Bernice to sell the piano so he could buy the land, but bernice refused to sell the piano because her family’s history is part of her, and Bernice said in scene 1 “Money can’t buy what that piano cost. You can’t sell your soul for money.” Even in scene 2 Boy Willie wants to sell the piano and Doaker told them that “Bernice aint gonna sell that piano,” and after that Bernice started shouting at Boy Willie. And I think this song could be played by Bernice in scene 1 and 2, especialy the part that is saying “This is the part of me, that your never gonna ever take away from me.”

A news article that represents a form of justice.

This problem is unacceptable because it’s unfair for these girls who wear hijab to be bullied just because of there religion and that they are wearing headscarf. People don’t understand one thing, that we are all HUMANS, made out of the same thing, we live once and then die. That’s us HUMANS, I don’t know why people (especially these days) are judging on religion, look, skin color…etc Everyone in this life have the right to live as they like, to be what they want to be, and to believe in anything they want. And religion must not allow people to hate each other. We are all equal.

Reflect on how The Piano Lesson can be represented in two different mediums. What sort of impact does this have on the story? Have you ever read a book that was later turned into a movie? What changed between the two mediums? Write two paragraphs.

The piano lesson was represented in two different mediums, a movie and a book. For me because I am a visual learner I like to see not read, but there is some people who prefer to read than watching a movie. Reading a book and watching the movie share lots of common things, for example the main idea is the same in both mediums. Meanwhile there is lots of difference between them, seeing a character, and knowing how do they look is much more easier than reading the description of them, and hearing the sounds and the voice make you more tense and excited than reading a description of a sound, also seeing the movie makes you feel how do the characters feel. But reading the book gives you an opportunity to image the scenes and the characters, and each reader will imagine a different character but with the same personality. However watching a movie makes you understand the story better than reading it, due to the emotions, sounds and pictures that are available in the movie. For example the piano lesson in the movie, it surely different than Im imagining it when I read the book.

I have read many books that were turned into a movie, as The Hunger Games. There are scenes and characters in the book that doesn’t exist in the movie, like when Katniss was surprised to see Peeta’s father enter, and then he gives her a pack of cookies that he made, but in the movie the only characters who get to visit Katniss before leaving is Prim, Gale, and her mother. Peeta’s father is never even mentioned. And there are scenes in the movie that are not mentioned in the book, like when President Snow tells The Gamemaker not to give the people too much hope, but in the book this scene doesn’t exist. I understood the story much more when I watched the movie, because I saw the characters visually and I saw their emotions, than reading the book and imagining the characters and the scenes.

This, to me, is what genuine justice is about— treating everyone equally and based on their actions as oppose to their appearance. People are suffering from racism around the world. It is not a light mater and shouldn’t be treated lightly. In the book, the main characters live in a time in which slavery has recently been abolished. Some slave owners are upset and although slavery is now illegal, that didn’t stop them from treating others like ones.

I agree with my friend hisham. We should fight racism and stop it. We should treat everyone the same and be careful with our actions. A lot of people are suffering racism and we should try making this problem decrease.

My point of view about Justice is clear. Its all about stoping racism, discrimination, giving people their freedom and treat them equally. Sadly in the Piano Lesson its the exact opposite, justice is flying away. This picture shows an example how black were treated in the story. And their rights are taken away from them. In the picture above where the black men are hand-cuffed shows what’s occurring in the story, that blacks are not given any kind of freedom and that they are suffering to live.

This is to see how black people were blamed for everything and white people were forgiven. This shows how justice is not achieved, people still face racism and discrimination and that should stop.

Pretend you are casting the movie The Piano Lesson, pick three characters and find 3 pictures of actors you would choose to play those roles. Under each picture include a 3-5 sentence description about why you would cast that particular actor (1)

I picked Chris Brown for the role of Boy Willie because both are trouble makers and both do crazy stuff. Both have suffered in jail for years and acted rude to the ladies they know; Chris Brown- to Rihanna ; Boy Willie- His sister. Thats why I've chosen Chris Brown they have so many things in common.

I picked Serena Williams for the role of Bernice because they are both tough, straight and outgoing persons. And both are confident in themselves and face their conflicts without giving up.

I picked Justin Bieber for the role of Lymon because both get what they want and both fall in love quickly. Ex. when lymon needed a truck he got it and when he fell in love with Bernice. JB is the same thing. Also both get their problems fixed they just get along pretending nothing happened. Ex. when lymon just went along that he bought the truck not steal it, and for JB he faces problems in his daily life

This song represents justice because it says there is so many people in this world with different culture, color and etc. who are all the same no matter what. No one is a slave everyone is in a free world. And that everyone should be together, don't let religion ruin this love.

Also this song shows an english and an arabic singer singing together letting the world know that we are all the same we are humans we all love each other we don't let no culture, no colour, no religion ruin this love and that we can change the world making it a better place.

Social networking has comletely changed our lives. I can talk to my friend who is thousands of kilometers away just by pressing a few buttons. A long time ago it would take a few days. We can show over a million people a picture also within a few presses of some buttons. I can show people a video...

I agree with this statement because its true social networking has changed our lives. Also it gathers our families and friends but the same time it separates us. I know its nice to show off sometimes and look the best but when you take it too far, thats when problems start to happen. And thats why be careful with the ones you love and have fun together!!

In what ways do you think social networking helps you better connect with the world around you?

In the old days people used to write letters then send them to other people and that takes days or even weeks to reach. In this world now after people creating the network social media just made it easier. 1 way is when you want to send a letter to someone, you just have to use email. If you send an email to someone it will take seconds to reach and seconds to respond.

Another way is if you wanna show off something you just bought or you want everyone to know that you bought something especially your friends. There is this special app called Instagram. In that app you can post pictures and videos making all your friends looking at that picture or video, instead of calling each of your friends and telling them.

The last way is that if you live a busy life, it can be difficult to keep in touch with everyone and still get everything done that needs your attention. Online social networking allows you to add people as friends so that you can easily keep in touch with them. They can also provide a great destination for families to keep in touch, share information and photographs, and even plan family reunions or get together. Social networks such as MyFamily.com are designed with this specific purpose in mind.

Finally i want to say that all these 3 examples helps you better connect with the world around you, all too social networking.

Write 2 paragraphs about why The Piano Lesson was written. Use information you learned in class to support your answer.

When August Wilson was in High School, he had an assignment in history class to write an essay. The day the teacher read it she was surprised because he wrote a perfect essay. She didn't believe he wrote it because he was black. Anyway when he was discriminated a lot he left High School and continued teaching himself in a library.

When he was at the library he knew he was a good writer and can write a book stopping discrimination. He did and called it The Piano Lesson. He wrote this book because he wanted to show people what it feels like to be discriminated. Another reason is to show the struggle of African Americans in living and how they felt of being discriminated. Finally, Wilson wrote this book to stop discrimination, and to make the world a nonracism place.
