Yeah, I agree. Itās always been fairly obvious to me (or at least I strongly believe) that Horde Prime was not originally Hordakās species, that whatever he is started completely separately.

Wherever he came from there could be more, or he could be some ancient spell gone wrong. I also wouldnāt put it past him to have killed the others.
Itād make sense, if you had the power to possess people, to stick to one species so you were able to tune their genetics over the years and much better for brainwashing
I mean, after all, who ever said they weāre clones of Prime?
Thatās what Hordak thinks, what theyāve been told. But Prime is a questionable source of information at best. He also told them that he was doing good and that certainly isnāt true.
I believe that he searched until he found good enough hosts (he is a parasite after all), and somehow wiped (almost) all of them out. My personal hc is that he tricked one into giving up his body, then used him to kill the others (Iām an angst fan, my sincerest apologies), but in some way or another he wiped them out. To get rid of that messy attachment. From one or a couple, he started figuring out cloning until he got it right. Once heād gotten that down, the original had served his purpose and was put out of his misery (or Prime kept possessing his body till the end, as a sort of keepsake). Oh but imagine the torture of that poor spacebat, knowing your kind was dead and you were being used to kill the rest of the universe, knowing people would associate your face with evil and death rather than as the victims. That your people were just the beginning, and now you would be the tools to finish it.
From there, he was good. Clone clones of clones, keep possessing them, clone more. It would be simple over the years to tweak their genetics in his favor. Make them larger, more aggressive, mindlessly obedient.
I think one piece of evidence for him gradually editing them is Wrong Hordak. Heās a younger clone, and in his first episode, he picks up another clone and absolutely launches him twenty feet away. The other clone seems completely powerless to this, and we barely see any other feats of strength like this. I guess since our baby boy is younger, heās naturally stronger as Prime would be smart to have each new generation of clones be stronger and all the other things.
I also think that evidence of them being original beings rather than created is in how strangely animalistic they are. The emotion through ears, ability to blush, hissing, imprinting, bareing teeth, feeling affection, etc. Prime doesnāt seem to experience any of these apart from lowering his ears once or twice (which felt intentional rather than instinctual). Itād make sense if they were a species before Prime came along and already had these traits hard-baked into them.
It also makes the infinitely tragic plight of the clones even worse. To know that they were originally something more, were free and happy people before Prime. That they might have had culture, songs, dance, art, families, friends, and now theyāre just bred to die fighting and seen as nothing more than machines. To think that Hordak falling in love wasnāt just a created monster finding affection, but a person being able to feel an emotion thatād been stolen from his kind hundreds of years ago. He was the first in a thousand years to do so. Wrong Hordak was the first in a thousand years to play and get to really cry and be comforted. Hordak was the first to be free, to have his own brain back, out of his entire species, in a thousand years. The clones, probably billions over the millennia, all of them that died on battlefields fighting for the man who only saw them as weapons could have been people, they couldāve had a better life where they sang songs and had friends and were actual people.
Also makes Prime worse. That finding and destroying their planetās chances of joy was just another stepping stone. Heās become so detached that I wonder how much he even remembers of his original form.
