After a couple of months of preparation, on December 1st my friend Violaine and I hosted the 151 Pop-Up restaurant, our first (but certainly not the last!) pop-up resto in Montreal. After the success of our pop-up in Copenhagen we were inspired to host a one-night restaurant in Montreal. Largely influenced by Restaurant Day, we wanted to open the restaurant in Violaine's home and invite a group of 20 people for a warm and cozy four course sit-down dinner. It was a wonderful group of people, largely family, friends, and friends of friends; we were inspired by the laughter coming from the dining room as we cooked. Our ingredients were partially sourced from local suppliers (for a list please see the menu below) and the food was served in a convivial and communal manner, to encourage people to interact and get to know each other throughout the course of the dinner.
We had an incredible group of people helping us throughout the night. A big thank you to the following people:
Julia, for being a amazing bartender. She prepared a bourbon cider twist (bourbon, apple cider and orange twist) and a delicious foghorn (gin, ginger ale, lime, fennel fronds).
Hart, for helping us in the kitchen and dining room as well as preparing the beautiful name tags, as seen in the photos above.
Penelope, for her help in the dining room and keeping things rolling smoothly
and Charlotte, for taking beautiful photos throughout the night as well as her continuous help and support while we took over her kitchen to test recipes.
Without them, the night would not have been the success that it was. And of course thank you to our friends and family for your continuous support in our endeavours!
It was a pleasure working alongside Violaine and an incredible experience overall. It has encouraged us to keep pursuing these sorts of events in the future, so stay tuned!
