The white haired boy sat cross legged on his stool, staring down at the large tube on his rickety old desk. He poked at it here and there with a few small tools, adjusting it here and there as the crackling light blue energy within sparked and surged thoughtfully.

“Whatcha got their kiddo?” a pink haired woman with massive metal gloves walked up behind where he was sitting.

The boy paused, fingers tightening a bit around the tool in his hand at the familiar voice.

“Nothing for you to know anything about.” He spoke in an obviously forced calm tone, possibly even through gritted teeth as well.

“No need to be so snappy it was just a question,” she shot back, so much for trying to be friendly. The magenta haired girl walked over to an adjacent table, using a screw driver to tighten up the pressure gauge on the massive right hand gauntlet.

The boy lifted his gaze ever so slightly as she sat at the opposite work bench, his pale brown eyes scanning her gauntlet.

“You can’t honestly have expected me to be nice to you, Pilty….” He sneered the last word then.

“Whatever man, I don’t expect anyone to be nice in this screwed world we live in,” she again shot back at him, not really caring for his terminology and tightening the pressure gauge further.

He huffed a bit, rolling his eyes before seemingly returning to his work, though a few words were muttered under his breath; “You used to be cool….”

She slightly slammed the screwdriver down on the table after using it, “you got somethin’ to say, then say it kid, otherwise don’t speak,” she was being a bit harsh, but he was really getting on her nerves.

He remained calm the whole while, though finally did look up to face her completely then, one brow raised curiously.

“I thought I was- pretty sure you heard me then, right? Or should I say it louder for you? You. Used. To. Be. Cool.”
