honey eyes looked to the woman in front of them. english is what she spoke, though aspen was still wary. she was taught their language, was told only to use english with those that they trusted. her eyes then went to uncle nyko, watching him nodding his head, and then her little eyes went back to the other woman. hearing that she would come with her, little hands tightening on nyko while her eyes looked to the woman. she didn’t know what to say to her, her eyes burning, as she was nodding her head. “he tripped a couple of times.” she whispers quietly, her head ducking to nyko’s shoulder, before she was being lifted and then her hands clung to the woman that was now taking her into her arms. her cheek rested against the woman’s shoulder, and aspen was curling into her now, closing her eyes as she listened to those around them. “ai firfou.” she whispers to her, not wanting to move her cheek from the woman’s cheek. “are yu firfou?”
hearing nyko had stumbled she gave her tiny cousin a soft smile, nodding. “it happens when tired, doesn’t it?” she whispers to her, and to shelter the little one from further injury, not of any fault of the healer, echo took aspen into her arms and nyko’s hand moved to soothe through her soft hair to reassure her as echo held her now. “sha.” she adds, nodding once more. “firfou.” she hugged the tiny one closer to her, rocking her slightly, letting her arms shelter her the best that she could to help her to feel safe. “uncle nyko is going to be right beside you the whole time, i promise you.” she only guided aspen’s head to her shoulder because she didn’t want anyone to see the small streak of ebony on her skin, it wasn’t a risk she was going to take, she couldn’t dare to. echo’s eyes looked to nyko and though she kept her voice down and between them, she couldn’t not ask. “where is luna?” she needed to know if she was coming along behind, the moment she walked into the bunker with aspen in her arms and nyko beside her, her eyes scanned the crowd behind them, knowing so little about caring for a child, aspen needed to be with luna and she worried that the natblida wasn’t here holding aspen herself. nyko held a solemn look in his eyes, but she wasn’t entirely willing to accept that luna wasn’t coming to be rejoined with aspen, so she lingered just inside of the bunker scanning over every face that stepped inside and walked past them, while her hand soothed over the little one’s back.
