Luke O’Sullivan’s Fantastical Urban Environments.

Artist Luke O’Sullivan goes beneath the surface of his neo-noir metropolises discovering a subterranean world alive with wonderful curiosity. The work, inspired by sci-fi films to classic video games, reminds me of two dimensional drawings I myself would create as a youngster; absolutely sure that there was an entire world hiding beneath the soil. Luke’s work takes me right back to that childhood dreamland and that’s just what good art is suppose to do.

Piecing Things Together: The Fern Art of @helenahpornsiri

The biggest occupational hazard of working with tiny ferns? “I have to be careful not to sneeze or move too quickly,” illustrator Helen Ahpornsiri (@helenahpornsiri) explains. “The leaves go everywhere.” Many of Helen’s creations consist of anywhere from 50 to 100 individual fern pieces from as many as 20 species collected from her garden in East Sussex, England. Helen transforms her foraged treasures into tiny masterpieces with a wooden flower press she received as a child. “I used to love opening it and finding pieces of summer in the winter,” she recalls. Her advice to other small business owners on Instagram is simple: “Just keep posting pictures,” Helen says. “It’s always great to see progress, so people can see how things are coming along, almost like a story being told.”

Four Freedoms 75th Anniversary

This year mark the 75th year of FDR’s four freedoms speech, I had the great honor to create a series of images for the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy to celebrate this anniversary. The Four Freedoms has been illustrated by some of the greatest illustrators in history, such as Norman Rockwell and Arthur Szyk. I would be lying if I say I didn’t feel the pressure of filling these big shoes.

Art director Madeline and I agreed that a modern interpretation that’s more whimsical and less propagandistic was preferable. I believe Four Freedoms remain applicable today. And they are rights that everyone, not just one country or one group of people, deserve. So I decided to go a different route and forgo depicting human altogether. I wasn’t sure if this unorthodox interpretation would fly but Madeline being wonderful as usual, was completely on board with the pitch. Thank you Madeline!

I am really happy of how these images came out, I hope you would enjoy them too!
