With her back leaning against a pillar in the Quad, Elaine glanced at the time illuminated on her phone screen. 7:00 P.M. He was running late. He referred to a stranger with whom she had one night to complete a ridiculous dare with. With a slight pout, she pushed herself off the ground and dusted the dirt off of her hands. If he wasn't going to show up, she'd go out looking for him. She spun around only to crash into—surprise, surprise—Jacob Wright. The pair spiraled to the ground in a tangle of limbs. 

Catching sight of his face under the moonlight, she smiled. "Hey, I'm glad you didn't chicken out."

I- yeah, I don’t have anything against werewolves. The bedroom might not be entirely unimportant, and I don’t know! I don’t really consider myself being full of talent but if you think so then I’m really flattered.

Brill? Is that short for ‘brilliant’? That’s great. How would a spell help? Ah, I’ll do my best to keep things interesting then; monotonous doesn’t sound good. Maybe you should play some video games or something, or you can borrow some from me. My roommate recently bought a whole bunch, I can probably sneak them away and give them to you. Oh and I’ve been alright, just staying inside, nothing real exciting.

That first statement doesn't sound so convincing. Was it your bedroom maybe? You're on the footy team, you're artistic, you've got a nice face, a sense of humour about drunk people shitting on your field, and you're still full of surprises. And I reckon you pull a lot of birds around here? You're blessed with talent. 

Of course, I'm sure your painting was amazing. No need for humility. A spell? Like an enchantment from a witch or warlock. That reminds me I've promised Aiden I'd play GTA V or Ghosts with him. She laughed at her fellow wiccan friend’s quick response. She grabbed her boots and shoved her hat on her head before heading toward the back door of the Kappa house. The wooded path lead straight to JR park and with her hands in her pockets she started down to meet El! She half jogged half walked as she kicked at the powdered ground. Once she broke through the treeline, she saw her friend sitting on the swing. Keeping her distance so El wouldn’t hear, Liz formed a snow ball and with a little magic she pushed it towards the blonde, hitting her square in the back!

For the past hour, Elaine had been refining her elemental control. She did not have a large arsenal of spells at hand, but she made up for it with her connection to nature. She was so concentrated in manipulating the snow to form a massive snowman that Elizabeth's attack came as a complete shock to her. Losing her balance, Elaine fell off the swing when the slush hit her square in the back, crashing headfirst into the lowest section of the snowman. "Ow. Who knew snow could be so painful." She mumbled under her breath as she stood back up and dusted the particles off of her body. El picked up a handful of snow and packed it into a tight ball. Boy, was she down for a snowball fight. If only she could spot her opponent. "Come out of hiding," She laughed. "I'm not mad, just a little embarrassed."

Nina is a sweetheart. There’s nothing wrong with being a little feisty and sassy. Oh it’s not sudden, I’ve never been a big fan of them. This whole humanity on and off thing is really not my cup of tea. Nobody’s ass is gonna get bewitched, babe, everything’s fine.

Snow days// Open para.

The day was bright but gray as the snow fell from the sky. She watched from her window as it collected on the ground. Excited for not having a need to drive anywhere. She swayed back and forth on the balls of her feet. Across the room she spotted her gloves and scarf. She felt as if she was in a cartoon and a little light bulb popped over her head. She crossed the room grabbing her peacoat, winter things, and her phone. Her fingers plucked away at her screen tapping out a message, ‘Hey let’s go out in the snow!’ She felt like a little kid again but sometimes you just need to let go and have a little careless fun!

Though it was of El's element to act juvenile at all times of the year, powder snow further brought out her childish nature. She arose bright and early that morning before the sun had even peaked over the horizon. The weatherman last night proved to be a harbinger of good news — the clouded sky foreshadowed snow. She hastily threw on a coat, beanie, and scarf over her pajamas and set off on the trail toward her favourite area in town. It was about an hour before her phone vibrated with a text from Elizabeth. 'Beat ya to it, love! I'm at John Riley Park.' El typed out her reply as fast as her near frozen fingers allowed. 'Meet me here! x'

At least you’re having fun, babe. If you’re happy, then I’m happy. Oh my God, I’ve lost all faith in vampires. Vampires these days are crap. Haha, I’m better off without one arm and doing all of that myself, than trusting a vamp to do the job.

Is that so? Other than Nina, I don't think I've met any other vampires. Sure she's quite feisty at first, but really likable once you talk to her a bit. What's with this sudden dislike? Did one of them mistreat you? I'll bewitch their ass.

Reflected in her eyes was the blueish-steel of the winter sky. Fortunately, the traditionally bitter Cambridge weather had thawed out a few degrees and the lack of a snow storm was adumbrated by the unclouded sky. Due to the abnormally pleasant winter weather, walking seemed appropriate. Grabbing a soccer ball and a backpack, she slipped out of Pallisades Condos and onto the path to the field. When she arrived, 6:02 was illuminated on the scoreboard. El was out of her element; punctuality wasn't her thing. In fact it would've been more likely of her to show up around 7:30 when the entire Harvard soccer team would already be warming up. Her reason for being prompt was no riddle — Jack intrigued her.

Elaine had expected to be the only one at the soccer field and she had planned to practice her elemental control to kill time while she waited for Jackson. Stepping onto the grassy area, she spotted a figure already there. El's plan was squandered; her personality was exuberant enough, adding magic to the mix would just confuse her new friend even further. "I'm a bit surprised you showed up so early. Did you come to survey the field for poo piles or are you about to do the doo doo yourself?" She greeted teasingly, tossing him the soccer ball that was previously in her arms. "I'll give you privacy. Just yell 'the bacon is crispy' when you're finished." She placed both hands over her eyes and turned her back to him.

His sudden change in heart made this all the more easier to do. He let himself slip into the unknown, out of his comfort zone in the last few month of the year. This was more typical behavior for the young man. No care, no worries. Everything was spontaneous and thoughtless, the way things should be. Something about her tender kisses felt enticing to Aiden’s senses, maybe it was just the alcohol and atmosphere talking, but he was fine with it lasting as long as it did.

As the warmth of her tongue grazed against his bottom lip, instinctively he parted his lips. No way did he originally think the kiss would take this route, but he wasn’t complaining. The pure ecstasy that poured into the kiss left his senses clouded. It was then when the drunken fool bumped into them, his first instinct was to grab hold of Elaine to instill that she wouldn’t lose balance. Looking back into her eyes. “How punny of you.” He replied with a smirk. Her next words left him in confusion. “There’s a spider what?” he called out as the blonde disappeared into the crowd. He found the nearest bar stool and collapsed onto it as he turned to order another drink. “Happy New Year” he uttered to the bartender.

It wasn’t really anything special, I just spent a lot of time on it so. It would look a lot better not torn in two, you know? Um, how have you been El?

Aiden thought what better place to spend New Year’s Eve then with a crowd of fellow drunken idiots. He never understood what ringing in the new year’s had to do with drinking or partying. And a kiss? What did that signify. Nothing. The more Aiden thought the more he realized nothing made sense to him anymore. He did on the other hand have a pre-pity party for one in his dorm. So he was on the verge of a drunken haze. Before he knew it the last seconds of the fallen year were being counted down. He could only hope that with the year ending so did the sorrows that hang heavy in his heart.

He heard a familiar voice calling his name, before he could fully turn around, Aiden was caught in a embrace that he wouldn’t have broken if someone made him. One; with that he knew two thousand thirteen was behind them. Before he could utter the words back to her. Elaine’s lips were pressed against his. It was shocking and surprising but he didn’t care. He kissed her back, placing his hands gently on the sides of her face. Sure in the morning it’d mean nothing, but now it’s meant something. What it meant was a mystery.

Manifested in the solitary tear that silently slipped down Elaine's cheek, the alcohol was indubitably intensifying her emotions. What exactly those emotions were was an enigma to her. The motion of her lips said passion and her caresses said love, but her brain said the tear was a mere symbol of liberation from the unsatisfactory past year and her heart said she was just drunk and lonely. Still, in the pot of emotions she was feeling, two slightly juxtaposing ingredients stood prominent: gratitude and confusion. 

She slid her tongue along his bottom lip, asking for access and allowing the kiss to carry on for a bit longer than originally intended. It sent her mind spinning; so much that she became completely unaware of her surroundings and had forgotten the environment they were in. Her reminder came in the form of a drunken man stumbling into them. Elaine pulled away from the kiss more reluctantly than she would admit. Her eyes met warm brown ones and she could barely contain the urge to cheekily burst out, "Well hey there I haven't seen that face since last year." Instead she settled with a smile and a hasty "Avoir une araignée au plafond!" before easily disappearing into the dense crowd.

Notes: It's New Year's Eve…

Displayed in tacky-looking fluorescent numbers, the flat screen T.V. in the lively nightclub counted down the last few moments of 2013. One minute and thirty-two seconds. El mused over how many drinks she could gulp down in the diminishing amount of time. Moreover, she wondered how many drinks she could buy before the bartender carded her; she was only 19 after all. Letting out a sigh, she mustered whatever self control she had left and stepped down from the bar. The tacky timer told her she had T minus thirty seconds 'till the year was over.

Spying a familiar face in the crowd, an idea formulated in her head. She pushed her way through the throng as they engulfed her target within. Five seconds left. The crowd hollered the seconds counting down to midnight. "Three... Two..." She finally reached him. "Hey Aiden!" Elaine called out all too enthusiastically. Running up to the boy, she wrapped her arms around his neck. "One!" "Happy New Year's." She spoke softly before moving her hand behind his neck and kissing him tenderly.
