A little something🤭 I fully want to get into writing novels (despite the fact I literally can't read them because I'm that easily bored💀😭🙏💀😭🙏) please give me feedback if you read :)
“George… It's been 15 years. Maybe we oughtta learn when to quit.”
George’s desk-tapping pauses.
“Would you give up on your daughter, Ric?”
“At this point, what’s the use in keeping on? You’ve been searching relentlessly like this for 15 whole years and nothing has turned up. It’s in your best interest to… try and move on now. We have no leads – no witnesses, no evidence, and there ain’t much room for error left. This case has been cold for 5 years… your progress is riding on good will and unofficial work, and that’s it! This isn't stable, and you aren't either. You need to give-”
“Stop talking, stop talking!” George clamps his hands together and presses his brow against it, his shoulders shaking as he clearly tries not to cry. “Stop.” He can't help it. A few tears drop.
“... I'm sorry, George. But… the world keeps moving, and I want to see you move with it. It hurts watching you stagnate over an unknown like this. It's like losing you to a loop before my very eyes. I... Well, I care about you.”
Richter slides over slowly and puts his hand on George’s back, rubbing soothingly. “We could get in big trouble for this. But George? I want to see you smile again. If solving this case, cold or lava-hot, will do that… I'm nobody to refuse to help. I don't like this, but I won't let you go. Not yet, anyway.”
George slides away, just a little to create some space. As he lowers his hands, he looks uncomfortable at the gesture, but assured. “... Thank you, Richter. That means the world.” George let's out a deep breath. “For November. What a silly name…” He rubs the base of his bare ring finger longingly.
“... You really don't know when something can ruin your life. Do you? There might but be warning signs, there might not be a choice, there might not be any time to react accordingly. You wake up and… and she's gone.”
With a huff, almost a laugh, George nearly whispers “Both.”
“Speaking of which, have you tried journaling like I recommended? It's great for remembering important things. It makes your brain work a little harder than usual.” Richter rubs his bushy jaw in idle question.
“Bought it a month ago and haven't touched it since. It's hard to write when all you have in your head is thoughts.”
