Unexpexted Conversation {Delena}
Damon looked back towards her with a small nod, before sitting down on the couch next to her. He wanted to make the uneasiness go away as soon as possible, and he was pretty sure that just standing there wasn’t helping her out. ”Vervain we can tolerate. But when it’s in large doses, it could wound us, but never really kill us. It depends on how it’s used though. Paired with a wooden stake? Painful,” he muttered, looking back towards her, trying to spare her from any grueling details. He looked back at her when she asked about who was a werewolf in this town. He hadn’t thought much about it, to be honest. The information alone was enough to keep himself away. ”You know, I haven’t really thought about it. The person I talked to got word from Stiles, so it could be anyone really. The kid talks to anyone and everyone,” he said with a shrug. “I don’t care who it is, I’m not making friends with a wolf,” he said again, before looking back towards her.
“She’s dead. Witches aren’t immortal like we are. They get older, and they die. She was around way back when. I never met her. This was centuries ago..” he trailed off, unsure of who this witch really was. All he knew is that she was the reason why he couldn’t enjoy the sun without this piece of metal on his finger. “She’s got every right to think that. I am,” he said, not going to sugar coat it for Elena. He was dangerous. There were times where he couldn’t control himself, and he’d lash out. He knew that. He looked back towards the ground, not wanting to think about what a wolf bite would do to her. “Let’s just say a bite’s a bite. No matter what, you’re looking at hurt. The best thing for you would be to wear wolfsbane along with the vervain. Protects you from the wolves too, so if they did bite you, it would hurt, but it’d hurt them more,” he said, looking back at her.
“Yes, you,” he said with a hushed voice. “I meant what I said earlier, Elena. I feel like I need to protect you and keep you safe. It’s an instinct that I’ve got now,” he said, looking back at her with his blue eyes. “Things have happened and people have left you, but I promise you, Elena. I will never leave you.”
Elena nodded once more, understanding what vervain really did. Up until now, she thought that large doses could permanently wound them, or even kill them if she was thinking to the extremes. Elena wondered if Damon had ever experienced a wooden stake mixed with vervain; Damon seemed to be speaking from experience, but Elena couldn't be sure. "You haven't thought about it?" Elena asked, her eyes slitting into a small glare, as she turned her body to face Damon. "Damon - there are werewolves running around, and you're not thinking about who could be a potential threat to you?" She asked, bewildered that Damon hadn't thought about something so crucial. She rubbed her temples, frustration building up inside of her. She wanted Damon to be safe, and if he didn't know who was a werewolf, the chances of him staying safe seemed pretty slim at this point. Elena couldn't help but smile at the Stiles comment Damon made. It was true, Stiles did talk to everyone and anyone, about everything and anything. "So he just told you flat out that there were werewolves?" She asked, cocking an eyebrow at him, doubtful that Stiles would just come out and say something like that. "No compulsion or anything?" She asked, prying even more, a playful smile tugging at her lips.
The smile soon faltered on Elena's lips when she found out that the witch was dead. Elena looked at him, her big brown eyes boring into his blue ones. Reaching for his hand, she gave it a small squeeze. "You're not," she said, not letting go of his hand. She knew Damon could've had Elena dead at any point, but she wasn't - she was still alive, and ironically enough, she felt safe with this man who deemed himself dangerous. "I don't wear vervain, Damon. And where am I supposed to get wolfsbane? That necklace Caroline was wearing before she turned into a vampire? It had vervain in it, but I'm sure you knew that every time you failed to compel her. Stefan gave it to her..and now, I don't know where it is." She said with a small shrug. Technically, Elena was walking around unprotected, and could be easily compelled to do anything at anytime.
Elena looked at him, tears stinging her eyes. He seemed so sincere, and caring. "You can't leave me. You're doomed for eternity of being a vampire, and I'm doomed for what feels like an eternity of misery" Elena reminded him trying to lighten the conversation with a weak attempt at a joke. Letting go of his hand, Elena placed her own in her lap, looking at him.
