Ever since I started working at a computer, my eyesight has been systematically deteriorating. At first I started with no glasses (ever since childhood I've been using them from time to time, my eyesight has never been perfect), year later I started wearing my glasses all the time. Half a year later I could barely walk because my eyesight got that much worse - there was no way I could drive a car - even a quick walk to the grocery store was desorienting. I got new, stronger glasses. A little bit over half a year later, at my check-ups for work, the ophtalmologist said that my glasses are already too weak, and it's gotten worse. I decided to chek that up with another doctor and she examined me properly - no sign of any eye conditions. I got stronger lenses, started taking vitamins (lutein, etc.) and I started regulary applying artifical tears. I's been fine, but now, after another half of a year, when I take off my glasses, I can see it got worse.
I need to go for a checkup with that last doctor (she was recommended to me; she's good) and see what I can do. I tried to cut down my screen time, my blood tests have never been this good (thanks to the vitamins), and yet. My fiancé told me that it might be reading that deteriorates my eyesight (it did so to many people in our families, who never even used the computer, so the only thing to blame is reading), so I will try to switch to audiobooks or ebooks. In the worst-case scenario, I will have to completely change my whole career path and do something requiring less screen time. 😱
Update time 🤓 I've been to the ophthalmologist; my eyesight has gotten worse ☝🏻I need stronger glasses, and I'll also be trying to get into contact lenses, so I have a meeting with an optometrist in July. The optometrist is not refunded, so... 🥲 Also, my ophthalmologist's first question was "Have you checked if you have diabetes?" which I completely forgot about and I, in fact, did not check this. But tbh I don't think I have them. Will ask my GP for a referral (I hope those tests are free).
Another fun health thing is that after curing my anemia, I got inflammation of the stomach, and after I waited for 5 months, I got into the gastroenterologist's office. He got weirdly excited and said I have big "diagnostic potential". He gave me a short list of blood tests I need to do (they are not refunded 😪 but I registered for them online and got A BIG discount, so yaaay). Both things he wants to check are illnesses that run in my family, so maybeee? Well, until lately, there were only 3 things wrong with me: a mental disorder (in remission - as I would like to call it), IBS (also in remission), and my allergies (full on destroying my life). Now I also have constant eye problems and a possible secret fifth thing 👀
After I check all of those things, it's the final boss time - the neurologist.

I see a lot of folks defending their vitriolic repugnance towards toddlers with cries of "but my sensory needs!" as if children are not also in possession of sensory needs. As if you, an adult here on Tumblr.com, do not have the capability and resources to learn the skills or acquire aids for coping with competing access needs. Or, y'know, just the option to leave, the way children most often do not.
You're holding an actual child to higher standards than you hold yourself, but it's the child that should be removed from public and community spaces. For your comfort.

Self care can look like staying up yapping with a friend until almost 2am while whispering so you don’t wake up their housemates. Enough with the “conserving my peace” going to sleep at 21 not doing anything fun movement. Yes you might be a bit tired the next morning and yes your sleep schedule might be off for a couple of days, but your soul will be fed and that’s so much more important for mental health
