Social Media Trolls / Cyberbullying
It is without a doubt that social media is a great source for easy communication among the world. The problem with this almost effortless ability to spread and share information or content is what these things entail. Because there aren’t many rules or restrictions on social media yet, people can ruin lives by publishing anything they want to the web. With this freedom of posting content comes the danger of people with malicious intent. Unfortunately, there are extreme numbers of people with a lifetime of negativity ready to post on the web. I am hoping that as society evolves over time, people begin to invest more energy into revising the interface, algorithm, and structure of social media platforms to develop social media into a safer and more positive experience overall. I find this concept important to me personally because I was cyber-bullied in high school so aggressively that I had to transfer to a school across the country. I remember being shocked that people were allowed to post things that had no truth behind them, especially things that were inappropriate and provocative. When this happened to me 5 years ago, there was nothing I could do to stop the online bullying. Further, I hope to share my story to help bring awareness to the need for more effective cybersecurity operations.
