Join me as I share a video of a springtime garden at Chateau de Bosmelet. Under a very old (I think) magnolia tree you can hear the birds chirping and see the other visitors blinking in the glorious sunshine. I was there to follow in the footsteps of writer Helen Maria Williams who visited her friends at this chateau in the summer of 1790. The chateau has fascinating links to V1 missiles in WWII and Henri IV who stayed at the chateau's Orangerie. I can't even tell you how incredible this place was. Built as a reliquary to hold the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ, the ceiling is covered with golden stars. Only the King of France, his family and the canons leading the service accessed this upper chapel via an outdoor terrace. Each window represents a book from the Bible and the amount of blue light and gold ornamentation in the chapel was truly heavenly. During the French Revolution when religion was outlawed the building was turned into a corn store. For more pics check out my insta story. I love the one of the open window, which shows just how rich the colours of the painted glass are. Tried a beautiful red wine last night! I'm so in love with it, Caruso & Minini Cutaja Nero d'Avola. Straight from the Sicilian vineyard to the newly opened Veeno Cafe on West Street. Serving only Italian wines, providing wine tastings, pairing unbelievably good buffalo mozzarella, speck, Gorgonzola & walnut and superb tiramisu. The wine in the pic was the rose, also superb. Veeno cafe is a newly opened wine cafe that wants to take pretentious out of wine drinking. I'd highly recommend checking them out.
