MAXWELL 4 TN GOVERNOR 2026 CAMPAIGN.
EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. __ CONCERNING CORPORATE FOR-PROFIT LAYOFFS IN TENNESSEE
By the powers vested in me by the Constitution of the State of Tennessee, as Governor, I hereby issue the following Executive Order pursuant to the Layoff Notification Law of the State of Tennessee:
SECTION 1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE a. This Order is intended to provide protections and assistance to employees affected by layoffs in corporate for-profit enterprises operating within the State of Tennessee. b. All corporate for-profit entities conducting layoffs within the state shall adhere to the provisions set forth herein.
SECTION 2. EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION ASSISTANCE a. Employers shall assist affected employees in securing new employment at the same level, with an equal or greater salary (or hourly rate), to the extent possible. b. Such assistance may include, but is not limited to, job placement services, career counseling, and the facilitation of networking opportunities.
SECTION 3. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE a. Employers shall support affected employees in addressing financial obligations by: (i) Assisting with the repayment of college tuition and loan debts, including mortgage obligations. (ii) Providing support for transportation-related expenses, which may include the payment for vehicles or the payoff of vehicles and title loans. b. Employers shall additionally assist older employees in managing the repayment of their children’s student loans.
SECTION 4. CONTINUATION OF BENEFITS a. Employers shall maintain affected employees on corporate-provided insurance coverage until 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2028. b. This continuation of benefits is designed to ensure that employees retain essential healthcare coverage during their transition.
SECTION 5. MINIMUM COMPENSATION REQUIREMENT a. Employers shall ensure that every affected employee receives a minimum annual compensation of $100,000.00. b. This compensation may be provided as part of severance packages or through other approved financial arrangements.
SECTION 6. AMENDMENT AND RESCISSION a. The Governor of Tennessee retains the authority to amend or rescind this Executive Order as necessary. b. Any such amendment or rescission shall be executed in accordance with the applicable state laws and procedures.
SECTION 7. EFFECTIVE DATE a. This Executive Order shall take effect immediately upon issuance.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the State of Tennessee to be affixed this __ day of January, 2027.
