Hey! Here’s my proper intro post :D

I’m Tine (she/he/they are all equally okay with me), early 20s, and I love musical theatre!

I’m from Southeast Asia. This unfortunately means I do my very best to see all that’s available where I live, while also actively keeping up with the current Broadway, West End, and Australian musical theatre seasons. So talk to me about anything!!!!

A selection of shows I’m obsessed with that you’ll probably be hearing about:

Operation mincemeat (current obsession!!! I saw it twice in London this summer and I cannot move on from it. I am trying to learn everything I can about it, please feel free to strike up conversation with me about it. I bow down to the Mincefluencers who came before and I am extremely happy to sit down and be educated on mince lore and history.)

Moulin Rouge (pre-mince, most of my posts here was probably rouge related. I had a big attachment to Aaron Tveit in my early teen years. But also John and Solea my loves <3)

Wicked (I’ve been a fan for 14 years. I hold the many women of wicked very close to my heart, and admiring them and the brilliance each of them offer is such a key part of being a wicked fan. Because of this, if you only believe in cynthia/ariana, or idina/kristin supremacy, do NOT come in here. I believe very strongly in respecting the long line of performers who have supported Wicked to be what it is today.)

very interesting how fast year 4 got production shots, given how it took ages to get only 2 (rubbish) ones of year 3. which weren't even posted by the way. and interesting how many group shots year 4 have gotten and how chloe has said (in a now deleted story...) that there are individual shots that will be posted too. very interesting that year 3 didnt get individual shots at all, with alex confirming that she never got a desk pic because production didnt ask for it! what an interesting way to treat your lead. i sure wonder why the only principal monty who wasn't under the age of 40 and who wasn't skin and bone was the only one to get treated this way. funny how that works

Alex Young stuns as mother this time round

Because Alex Monty will never ever die for me I am going to talk about one of my favourite insanely clever things she did. There are these BRILLIANT parallels where things she does that seem innocent or fun come back and become actually a bit insidious.

In pre jft scene, she would shout 'NO!' at Charles, really playful and fun, and get very in his face when he's protesting about going on a bar crawl, and it is such a familiar moment - and then in the bloody tea as Monty leaves and he says 'ok Charlie, plan is back on' he again leans right into Charles' face and says 'ok' in that exact same abrasive tone as 'no' and it becomes cruel and humiliating and still so familiar, but the moment is completely twisted.

There's a similar thing where in making a man Monty gives this sly little look at Charles on 'the nation's in need of a marvellous man' (implying he is the man the nation needs, and the man they are making), it's such a sweet insular moment from Monty revealing his appreciation for Charles. Then, in act as if, there is the return of this secret look on 'there's so much at stake when you're making a man' but this time it's almost bitter.

And then obviously everyone and their mother knows about the tie motif but it is so brilliant to me how it transforms from a correcting, guiding gesture to controlling and admonishing (though always possessive).

I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting but I just think it's such a brilliant way of exposing how calculated every one of Monty's moves are, and how (as Alex once said) 'Ewen's wonderful until he's not'.

following on from the discussion yesterday of alex being the only monty to not have had an individual production shot of them behind the desk, i re-listened to her silly women podcast episode about weight within the industry while i was at work this morning and it actually broke my heart (again) hearing her talk about her experiences of taking over roles that had traditionally been played by younger and traditionally skinnier actresses and how the perception of her casting from producers/directors/audiences affected her

so forgive us for wanting to speak out about this issue, i can promise you it isn’t ’just about less promo content of the y3 cast’
