her cheeks grew undeniably hot, “i mean. . .” a nervous chuckle, “c’mon don’t say it like that.” elena rambled.

“well they aren’t new exactly, they’ve been around for years but this is the first your little town has seen them.” the blonde stated. “where to begin, theres dragons, familiars, shapeshifters and my all time favourite, the succubus. those are just the ones i’ve seen in the past week.” 

“and you decided that it was just a good idea to keep all of that to yourself?” elena scoffed. the list was so impressive, she half wondered if rebekah had just made all of those up to make her uneasy. but she doubted it, something about it all seemed genuine.

“i do –– i’m the history professor.” the man said to her. “pretty boring to most people but it’s interesting enough for me.” 

oddly enough, the statement sobered elena a little. “my last guardian taught history at the high school, i’ve had a little bit more appreciation for the subject since then.”

kylo felt the strength she had when she pushed him back down to the floor, turning and looking at her before loosely chuckling and shaking his head. “that wont work.” 

elena considered his words for a moment, and she assumed it all clicked. “blood?” she offered, “do you need blood, i can get you some if that’s it.” she continued to blab, “trust me i know how bad it gets if you go too long without feeding.”

“You know the year you came to the Halloween thing dressed as a bee. Yeah well somewhere around there.”  

“okay, so a pretty long time ago then.” elena confirmed with a smile. “i just wanted to make sure i didn’t accidentally snub you at some point more recent. then i’d have felt bad.”

“this big bad world is getting a lot bigger and a lot badder, with all the new creatures around town i think something big is coming –– prepare yourself little gilbert.” 

“new creatures?” elena frowned, “rebekah, what do you mean?” elena being elena had been hoping the worst was over. it crossed her mind that rebekah may just be toying with her, but if she wasn’t she needed to know what the blonde was referring to.

“well then you definitely seem to be doing it right.” he said with a smile and a nod. “you sure did then elena, call me arthur – at least while we’re outside of class.” 

“okay then, arthur.” she said with a smile. “you teach here?” elena’s brows quirked, “what do you teach?” not that it mattered much to the conversation, she just wanted to know.

kylo shook his head as he looked up at the girl. “no no nothing like that.” he said to her, taking a breath as he sat up slightly. “i just haven’t eaten in a few days, guess it all finally got to me.” the man stated, groaning as he tried to stand up. 

elena nodded slightly, “hey, i think it might be best for you to stay sitting.” she suggested, gently pushing him back to a sitting position. naively assuming he was human, elena began digging around in her bag, “i think i have a granola bar in here or something.” she insisted.

“So right now, my decision for all it’s worth is to get drunk.” 

“want a drinking buddy?” she asked. that was the alcohol already in her system talking.

“No i mean not in this decade. But before she left we were and i’m pretty sure she wouldn’t be down for hearing that i liked you first and then dated her. She just has that thing with you lot. Feeling like she was always second to caroline.”  

“yeah, i know.” elena sighed, “but you have my word, i won’t tell her.” she promised with a little bit of a nod. “and not that it really matters anymore, but . . . when was it exactly you had a crush on me?” she asked teasingly.

Handing the drink to her, he watched as she took a sip. “I really do…” he chuckled. “I know, its really bad… but its nice..” he shrugged. he really had no idea what he was saying. 

she laughed. he wasn’t making much sense, but she knew exactly what he was saying. “yeah!” elena agreed before taking her second sip and handing it back. “i’m really glad i bumped into you, you’re a great party friend!”

“Well, then I’m starting the trend.” Bonnie smiled at her friend once she was back on her feet. Despite everything the two had gone through, Elena was the closest friend Bonnie had, and that would never change. “It’s not like you had a choice in the first place. But no overtaking me, I still want to feel sorta good about myself.” She joked before they began their little jog. 

“i’m going to try my very hardest to keep this a vampire ability free jog, you have my word.” elena promised with a simultaneous sigh, then nod. “besides the point of jogging together is that we stay together, not you getting left behind while i’m halfway across mystic falls.” she said a bit more light hearted this time. so far so good, their little jog was going perfectly well and entirely human ability based.

kylo hathaway ––– open starter 

the bell for the class has just rung, signally that the school day was over. kylo took a deep breath as his students all stood up and began to leave the classroom. it had been a few days since his last feed and it was finally taking it’s toll on him. when he thought he was alone his legs buckled and he fell to the floor, he was drained and needed energy. the succubus lifted his head and blinked a few times when he heard feet rushing towards him. “i’m fine –– you need to go.”

elena had heard a body smack to the ground from several classrooms away. the brunette wasted no time speeding down the halls to the aid of whoever had fallen. if she was going to be a vampire and have all these enhanced abilities, she was going to try and use them to help people. “clearly you’re not okay.” elena commented with an uncomfortable laugh. she crouched down, “what happened? did you fall? do you have . . . pre-existing conditions?” by no means was she a medical student, but she had been around her father’s practice enough when growing up to stumble her way around helping him.

Jesse stumbled a little as they headed over to the dancing students. He followed the other and smiled a little as he noticed some more drink. “Hey look.” he admitted to the other as he grabbed a bottle of bourbon from the side and took a sip of it. The taste was a little bitter on his taste buds, but it wasn’t as bad now he had some much more in his system.

elena laughed and gestured for jesse to let her have a sip. “you work quick.” she commented with a laugh. “if anyone asks, i’m twenty-one.” the brunette advised, taking a sip of her own. instantly, her face scrunched up at the bitter taste. still, she grinned. “i don’t know how anyone ever drinks that stuff regularly, it burns.”

Trystan smiled. “Yeah, are you all sorted for your dorm now? I’ve got a little stronger since the last time we saw each other, so I think I could manage some good boxes..” he teased. 

“ah, no, i hauled them all up here myself.” she admitted, slightly embarrassed. “didn’t really have anyone around offering to help a couple of hours ago.” elena grimaced. “thank you, though. seriously.”

nodding the male sighed. He knew she was right. Jesse smiled. “Sure..” he admitted standing up- swaying a little - “Come on… lets dance..” he stated and grabbed her hand to pull her up - despite his strength being shot due to the alcohol. 

elena mostly pulled herself up, but she wouldn’t tell jesse that. as she stood, she pointed up on her toes and whispered in his ear, “good idea, maybe we can find a drink or two along the way.” she suggested before falling flat back on her feet, grabbing his hand, and moving to the other dancing students. maybe her behavior was a bit uncharacteristic, but that could be attributed to both the vampirism and alcohol.
