It was strange to think that the two of them had so much in common, despite being so vastly different from each other at a first glance. John appreciated Elena just the same, thankful to have found someone who could understand the struggles he kept to himself more often than not. He was glad that he’d been able to help her feel a little more at peace with her trauma, even though he knew it’d probably never go away entirely. It was a part of him now, the same way his scars were. A constant reminder of how lucky he’d been. A soft laugh escaped him as he shook his head at Elena’s question. “I’m fine, I promise – it’s just that work has been the biggest headache lately,” he told her genuinely. “On top of everything, I mean,” John said, waving it off as he grinned back at her, staying close to the kitchen area while his friend settled on his couch immediately the way she always did. “I definitely know the feeling. It’s like I can’t be without work but I know that I’m also getting too intense about it again – Quinn took me to a beach house for the weekend after my birthday and I swear, I forgot what it was like to just relax. I was a different person,” he told her with a chuckle before nodding towards his kitchen area. “Do you want anything to drink?” The man asked. “To pick up on what you said though, I think we got issues,” he teased with a grin. “We need to learn how to just be still.”
.
A furrow of Elena’s eyebrow appeared on her face as she listened to John’s words, never liking to hear work or anything for that matter weighing him or people in her circle of friends down. Both of them had been through their fair share of trauma and hardship that they should somehow get a free pass from any further curve balls or stresses that life even thinks about throwing their way. But alas, that’s not how life works, now is it. “I’m so happy that Quinn took you away. You need to give yourself a break, you can’t wrap yourself up in work and get lost in it, you know. What’s going on at work that’s so intense, anything you can share? I know I’m not the most art savvy of people but maybe I can help. Or at the very least give you a chance to say it out loud and get it off your chest.” Elena offered looking over at him from her position on the couch, not leaving her comfortable spot. “ I would love a drink. Anything you have—and tell me about it, we need to learn to calm the hell down. I mean I can tell you to just relax until I’m blue in the face but we both know that me sitting down on your couch right now is the most still I’ve been all day.” The words were true, Elena was one of those people with restless legs and etching fingers who always needed to keep busy. A curse, and a blessing in some ways.

Lucy laughed lightly as she was praised for the job. “Oh I don’t think I really survived,” she admitted, “I got fired, I don’t exactly have the patience or the customer service skills for it.” Lucy wasn’t great at just playing along, she liked to make her opinion known. She had found it hard when she began her career but Lucy had found a way to critique people whilst not pissing them off.
.
Elena couldn’t help but laugh, shaking her head. “Oh there’s got to be a good story behind that. How the hell did you get fired from a call center job?” She asked curiously. Gratefully thanking the server who brought their food out when it arrived, taking a second to let the smell fill her nose before she got started with an eager bite.
johnbernsteinx:
John was excited to see Elena again. With how busy he’d been lately and his job taking up a lot of time, while he was also trying to navigate prioritizing spending time with Quinn, there wasn’t a lot of hours left in his days. Yet, he always made sure to make time for his friends, whenever he possibly could. When Elena had told him that she could be over later that day, he’d been more than happy to have her. The knock caused Merlot to hop off the couch to make his way over to the door excitedly as John set down his book and got up as well to pull the door open, a broad grin settling on his lips. “Hi!” He greeted her and was quick to hug her back, giving her a gentle squeeze before pulling away while Merlot sat next to him with his tail wagging excitedly. “Don’t even worry about it!” He told her, waving Elena off. “I allowed myself to go home a little earlier than usual so I’ve just been trying to unwind,” the man admitted with a shake of his head, definitely able to relate to finishing some extra work despite being off for the day. “Come on in, please,” John added, stepping aside to let her in as he let out a deep breath. “I’ve been good so far,” he told her genuinely. “Just trying to juggle everything life has been throwing my way lately. What about you?”
.
John always enlisted a feeling of calmness in Elena, making her usually high revving restlessness settle on a lower and more comfortable frequency. She appreciated the man so much more than most would probably assume, having been someone who understood the most raw and vulnerable side of her. She smiled as she stepped inside, turning towards him. “Oh no, what’s going on now? Anything in particular that you’ve had to deal with? You know I’m here if you want to talk it out” She offered reassuringly. Stepping into John’s place, Elena took an appreciated seat on his couch. A place she’d spent many days, seeking comfort and advice. “You know me, I try not to take things too seriously. I’ve just been working, trying to come up with some fun things to keep myself busy. I don’t know what it is, but as soon as I have a day with nothing planned my skin starts to crawl and I have to get out and do something.”
lucindaemmerson:
Lucy moved forward and ordered her own meal, a Shrimp Tom Yum Goon, her favourite. Lucy nodded as she listened to Elena, the two were similar in that regular nine to five jobs were just not their speed. Exactly, like I get my jobs, I look online, I gather information and then I head out and shop till I drop,” she said, loving that part of her job. Lucy lead them to a table, sitting herself down and throwing her bag under the table. “I worked in a call centre very briefly to fund a trip abroad and it was like pure torture.”
.
Taking a seat at the table, Elena almost shuddered at the mention of having to work at a call center, it sounding like nothing short of a nightmare in her ears. Feeling very lucky that her hobby of racing paid off for most of her expenses once she was able to track her bike. “A call center? I can’t believe you did that, I took a few serving jobs and what not before I could afford my bike, but sitting down and taking calls from impatient customers. I’m impressed you survived that”
angel-emmerson:
“I mean you could but then I’d just feel old as shit.” He raised an eyebrow before letting out a laugh. “You’re good at sitting huh? I’ll make sure to keep that in mind next time that I go because believe me there’s gonna need to be a second trip. Only room I don’t have to worry about is the gaming room because my sister’s taking care of that. Hey you ever think about teaching other people how to like maintain and take care of their motorcycles? Or like anything related to mechanics? I mean I’m not saying you gotta teach a bunch of teenagers how to race motorcycles, I don’t need that liability on my hands but have you ever considered it? Just keep that in mind, alright? I might call on you once the center opens up. I want to keep things interesting, you know?”
“Alright, you got yourself a deal. What do you feel like eating? I could honestly eat everything but I lowkey got a craving for chicken wings, all sorts of flavors. What do you think about that? I mean we are drinking beer. You want to see me dance I can dance right here,” he told her and started to shake his hips, dropping it low to shake his ass in her direction before laughing. “Let me stop before I rip my jeans, what do you feel like watching?” He slid his sneakers off and put them by the door before he found a place to sit on the couch, stretching his legs out as he sipped his beer, his eyes following her around. “You been good? Staying out of trouble or at least..not getting caught?”
.
“I guess I’ll just call you mister Angelito.” Elena responded cheekily with a playful grin on her face. “It’s all I did a while back, as you might know. So I would definitely know a thing or two of what is and what is not a comfortable couch” She mused, referring to the time she spent healing from her injuries after that last race. Angel having been someone who’d watched her when she did race, knowing very well what happened that day. Luckily she had been all geared up so she was lucky to be alive and only sustain the injuries she did, but for the longest time she was completely couch bound, the worst time of her life. A laugh escaped her at the thought of teaching kids about racing, not being able to picture herself as being a good teacher in any sense of the word. “Oh, so you wouldn’t want me to teach them how to get that perfect lean angle to be able to take tight corners like a pro and not lose speed?” She joked. “I don’t know how good of a teacher I’d be, but if you want me to go through some basic bike knowledge with the kiddos I could give it a shot.”
“Ohh, I like the way your mind works. I would not say no to chicken wings. We could order an assortment and deck out the whole coffee table and just indulge” Elena hummed. As soon as Angel started dancing, shaking his ass, Elena couldn’t help but let out a laughter. Cheering him on from her spot at the kitchen. “See, I knew you could bust some moves with those shoes.” She teased before walking over to him, plopping down on the couch next to him. “Oh you know me” She started giving him a look as she pulled up her legs on the couch. “I never get caught” She added with a grin taking a sip of her beer before answering seriously. “I’ve been doing good, got a few stories lines up, and just living life. I took a drive outside of town and went east towards the mountain trails and found the most delicious twistie of a road. It was so good—But what about you, besides couch shopping, anything interesting going on in mister Angelito’s life?”
rilesxjones:
There was no part of Riley that would ever disagree on the fact that her boys were absolutely the cutest three dogs she’d ever met. “I may be a little biased, but you’re not wrong. They’re the greatest boys of all time. If you ever want to meet them, they’re also incredibly friendly. I usually have them with me most days, so definitely have to have the car for them.” It was a small sacrifice to have the love she got from the three dogs and Riley wouldn’t have changed it for anything, even if she did miss having the bike.
It was immediately apparent just how into the topic Elena was, her eyes lighting up the second she was asked the question, and Riley matched the enthusiasm with a giant grin of her own.She loved when she got to see someone really in their element with something that they held a passion for. “So you did this for a living, is what I’m gathering and that’s totally badass,” Riley chuckled, her head nodding appreciatively at all of the advice that Elena was giving her. “But no, god, go into all the detail you want, I love it. I have to admit, I wouldn’t hate going back for another Kawasaki. Being familiar with it would be nice to just get back into it, I know a little bit more about the maintenance and all of that for the brand.”
.
“Are you kidding? I would love that. I wouldn’t be able to have my own dog right now seeing as my life tends to flip at a switch and most of the time I’m off somewhere. So I get my fix from hanging out with other’s babies. Which is the next best thing” Elena mused, happily accepting the offer to get a chance to meet the little rascals from the picture.
As an unruly teenager who finally found something she enjoyed and could throw her whole heart and soul into, it wasn’t all that strange how Elena was still as enchanted by the subject and could go on and on about bikes and the whole scene of it all. And besides, writing about the best bike for beginners, the new ride the top racers are choosing for the upcoming season, or whatever new gear is being put on the market was all apart of her daily life these days so it was an easy thing to fall into and chat about. “I did. I raced in both Moto2 and MotoGP for about 7 seven years total. Now I write for Autosports Magazine so I get a lot of sneak peaks of the new releases that brands are coming up with.” Elena explained. “Oh yeah, the ZX-R6 is a top runner and often regarded as one of the faster bikes in the 600cc group, so you would be going with good choice. It’s also pretty sleek and sharp, if you want something with a larger displacement the ZX-10R isn’t a bad choice either. Kawasaki’s have an advantage of using parts that are easier to come by than some of their competitors, which makes them that bit more affordable.”
isaiahxcruz:
“It’s the one perk of having lived here forever,” he joked. “This is definitely the type of town where things don’t change.” The harbor truly never changed, except for the lights around Christmastime. “Depends on what you want, but all the bars around here are a safe choice,” Zay offered. “Did you just move here, or…?”
.
“Oh yeah you’re definitely right about that. Some of the appetizers at On the Rock are ridiculous” Elena agreed, thinking maybe that would be a good place to end her evening. “Actually, I grew up around here. Although I did spend a few years away, been back for about 2 years. But for some reason the deals that some of these places must’ve completely escaped me. I might’ve been too hungry whenever I’ve gone out to get food to look into any promotions”
lucindaemmerson:
“Oh but I hide it so well!” she replied with a laugh. Lucy wasn’t one for keeping quiet about her opinion on anything. Lucy stepped through the door, thanking Elena for holding it open for her. “I can’t do that either,” she agreed, “computer work would be my absolute nightmare,” she explained. Lucy liked her job because it kept her on her feet and busy, and required very little screen time. “I do some online shopping and use some programs to organise outfits, but at least that’s not all the time.”
.
The place being one of those where you made your order and then took your seat, Elena walked up ordered a pad thai with chicken and stepped back to allow Lucinda to make her order for the food. The smell that filled the interior of the restaurant being enough to make Elena’s stomach crave the food even more than she already had. “I know exactly what you mean. I mean I have to sit down and write for my articles, but at least I’ve got plenty of flexibility to the job and they send me on places to watch the races or if a new vehicle is launching any time soon. If I had to settle for a normal 9-5 job I’d probably rather risk it and go back to racing.” She said, knowing full well that the reason she’d made her hiatus from the sport was due to her body still healing and having been in a pretty bad condition after her last race.
aimee-morales:
Location: Outside of Aimee’s house in Hemlock Tagging: @elenarios
“Lena are you sure about this? I mean fuck, this dress barely goes past my thighs!” Aimee was tugging at her dress as she stood in her doorway. She had let Elena convince her to go out that night, to really go out, enough that she had asked Ángel to come over and spend the night so Mason wouldn’t be alone. Of course the boys were already laid out on the couch playing video games and talking shit in a way she knew they wouldn’t if Aimee was still inside. “If I catch a cold it’s your fault,” she added as she made her way down the steps, laughing to herself at how much she sounded like her mother. “Se honesta conmigo, is my ass hanging out or what? And please tell me we’re taking a cab because I would love to ride your bike literally any time but not in this dress.”
.
"Ay Señorita, you look amazing” Elena mused hyping up her friend as she walked out on her porch. Giving her a once over, a grin made its way onto her lips as she waited for her friend. She’d ended up calling for an uber to Aimee’s place, she’d debated for the longest time if she should just drive over on her bike. But that would call for her to either change, or put on biker shorts under her shirt which she wasn’t feeling up for. So she made the executive decision to be responsible for one night and keep the bike parked by her apartment. That way, she wouldn’t have to come back and get it in the morning. Elena rolled her eyes before shaking her head. “You’ll be just fine. And you look sexy as hell, with an ass like that who cares if it’s hanging out. Which it’s not, by the way, you look like a proper snack in that dress. Tell me again why you don’t dress like this more often?” She hyped some more. It had taken some time to get Aimee to agree for a proper night out, but once she’d gotten a yes out of her friend Elena wasn’t going let her pull back from it. And when Elena went out, she went all out. “Of course we’re taking a cab, how do you think I got here? I know, I even shocked myself when I left my baby at home, but it’s not always that we get to go all out so I had to make a sacrifice”
Where: John’s place, Goldfinch Valley With: @johnbernsteinx
Elena drove slowly through John’s street in Goldfinch Valley, to not make too much noise from revving her bike. She didn’t need the entire neighborhood to look out their windows to see who was zooming by, not that she minded. Pulling in to her friend’s driveway she swiftly killed the engine, stepped off the bike and pulled her helmet off. Letting it rest on the bike before she walked up to his front door and let her hand come to his door in a knock. She could’ve just walked in, but more than saying that she’d be by sometime in the afternoon she hadn’t given the man much notice for her arrival so she figured a knock could be useful to ensure that he was home. “John.” She exclaimed when the door eventually opened, giving the man a warm hug. “I meant to be here like an hour ago but I got stuck putting some last details on my article after my editor sent it back to me. But I am finally here. How’ve you been?”
Sweet. It’s like my own private telenovela.
