Friendly reminder that Crowley has no miracles so this entire outfit is Aziraphale's creation.
—————————–——Dinner with a dragon———————–—————
Oh-
when Thorin was on the dock talking to Fili about some “I cannot risk the fate of this quest for the sake of one dwarf” bullshit I just know that blonde boy was pissed as hell remembering how he got shoved in a bag and almost eaten bc his uncle was too noble to see some guy he barely knew and liked even less get ripped apart by trolls
We all love Bilbo.
Well my first bagginshield art
Hello
So you mean to tell me Frodo just HAPPENS to have black/very dark brown hair and the brightest blue eyes you’ve ever seen which are uncommon for a hobbit, and slightly taller then the average one,
and his ‘uncle’ just HAPPENS to have a VERY good ‘friend’ that ALSO has black/very dark brown hair and the brightest blue eyes you’ve ever seen. . ?
can we get them on a paternity test show. . .
Okay, Bagginshield people, it's time to talk about the subtle scene that plays on repeat in my mind. Let's talk about how much was conveyed to us in this scene in such a short amount of time. This entire scene is only 18 seconds long, and it's one of my favorite 18 seconds in the films.
Bilbo is chasing right after Thorin, following him so intently that despite Balin being in front of him, he doesn't notice him turn off, and it takes Balin baling out to him in order for him to look back. He, in turn, naturally calls Thorin. Who stops dead in his tracks.
Thorin turns without a second thought and immediately backtracks. He's looking at Bilbo at first, but quickly sees the dragon rounding the corner, which alerts Bilbo.
Bilbo turns back on the dragon. This seems insignificant, but it's so important. He didn't run for his safety; he turned to look at Thorin in terror. Bilbo is smart, very smart. The words coming next haven't left Thorin's mouth, but Thorin is just self-sacrificing enough, and the margin of error is small enough that he had to know what he would say.
He had to tell Bilbo to follow Balin. Quick and sharp, an order. Look at his eyes. He knows full well he might be about to meet his own end. His eyes go from the dragon to Bilbo and back in quick succession about four times. HE. IS. ABOUT. TO DIE. He knows it, and he can't look away from his Bilbo even though running right now would make the most sense. This is articulated further later.
And this is the part that grips me in my soul. In this entire interaction, Bilbo hasn't turned his back on Thorin a single time. Even now, he's walking backward. He doesn't even notice Smaug about to spit fire, and it takes Balin, dragging him through the door, for him to go.
Here it is again in slow motion, focused on Bilbo.
Even the way he says Thorin's name is steeped in panic and denial as he knows Thorin isn't coming but still holds his hand out to him.
These are the last looks of two people who think this will be the last time they see the person they love.
Thorin delays his turning back as well for a few milliseconds more of watching Bilbo go. By this point in the movies, it's abundantly clear just how much Bilbo means to Thorin. Even down to making sure he went with him when they split up to confuse Smaug in the first place.
All of this emotion, all of this pit of your stomach inevitability, all in just 18 seconds.

Reenactor throws a spear at a drone
What a time to be alive.
“The medieval warrior, realizing the consequences of his impulsive act, immediately approached the owner of the drone and offered to pay for the damage.
The owner of the drone was so impressed by the brilliant attack that he suggested organizing a competition for bringing down “dragons” with short spears next year.
Drone owners have another year to develop a unique “dragon-like” design for their flying machines.” (x)
I am 100% cooler with this knowing that the spear-thrower realized “oops maybe I shouldn’t have done that” and tried to make it right, and that the guy who the drone belonged to was cool with it
just so everyone knows, this has already been memorialized in a runestone
Everything about this post blesses those involved with a +4 on their next Today is Good Day roll
a rough translation of inscription on the runestone:
On the seventh day of May in the year of 2016 on hither spot the mighty warrior Ulf hath slain a dragon with his spear.
so yeah, happy birthday to this dragon-slaying event and to it only
Happy Ulf Hath Slain A Dragon With His Spear!
@acorn-and-oakleaves did I do it right?
firsts encounters...
You know, something I absolutely love about The Hobbit fandom is that we have all collectively gaslighted ourselves into believing that the Durins survived.
But when you do find canon-compliant your heart shatters. And you can fucking hear it.
Like 95% of fics you're gonna find are NOT canon compliant in any way, the rest 3% are different aus, and the last 2% is just soul-inflicting, pain injecting trauma.
