The first simulated image of a black hole was calculated with an IBM 7040 computer using 1960 punch cards and hand-plotted by French astrophysicist Jean-Pierre Luminet in 1978.
the romance of hand-plotting. this guy looked at the numbers and drew each of those dots manually, and the image emerged. we can only imagine how he felt
The more I’ve continuously aligned my wants, actions, and values, the more confident I’ve become. Integrity. Authenticity.

leaving the daydream
I lived much of my life in a daydream. Numbness, probably, to be specific.
I felt closed off. I felt like an outsider. I was deeply shy and timid.
Feeling like there’s something fundamentally wrong with *me*.
I would quiver at any social interaction. I just wanted to be invisible.
I abandoned myself to cope with my horrendous household circumstances.
Escaping through obsessions with video games and crushes.
My only way of coping was to avoid my own life and I am just now beginning to wake up to the reality of it all. What were coping mechanisms to survive childhood have been holding me back from my potential.
I don’t want the past to completely define who I am anymore. I’m looking to start defining my life more intentionally, and to explore my creativity and interests.
1. Why this, why now
I’m coming to terms with who I am. This is practice for my writing and an outlet for reflection and creativity. I’ve been inspired by my new apartment, my new insights into my own life, and discovering who it is I want to be. I’ve also been deeply inspired by my friend Holly’s incredibly talented short story she posted on substack last year, that I only recently have read.
