Welcome friends and enemies to my my corner of purgatorial lechery! I live in the UK, and am at least a quarter of a century old.

I write fanfic, make music, take pictures, and screech at the walls of my enclosure about fictional people. My main fandoms are Supernatural, Magnus Archives/Protocol, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and the Avatar movies (crucify me, I know). Top Five Lascelles HCs

You sent me so many! <3 I’ve talked about these before, but:

1. He’s the kind of person who, when he sees something that scares him, will pick a fight with it. This explains much.

2. This one is new! Delayed stress reaction. I have that and, you know, what would I do with all my personality traits if I didn’t project them onto fictional characters, but there is canon support in how the murder affected him. When it’s happening he’s like “this is nothing, I feel nothing” and a little later he’s vibrating with violence. Not what we usually mean by delayed stress reaction but the same mechanism: Defer emotion in the moment, have it hit you in the back of the head with a crowbar later.

3. Sleeps with married women of his own rank because they’re not dirty whores but also won’t try to marry him, WHAT A CHARMER. But I like to think it is usually more mutually casual than with Maria, or he’d be in more trouble more often. (Sidenote on sexuality: Like. I like the idea of a bisexual Lascelles, and I know we all saw Heffernan in the role and thought Queer, but the period doesn’t equate preoccupation with fine clothes and furniture and coiffure with effeminacy as such? It’s Worldly, rather. So it’s important to remember when people looked at Lascelles they wouldn’t necessarily have though “Ah, a Gay”, but since he IS touched by sex scandal, they probably thought “Ah, a Slut”.)

4. The above is all rather canon compliant/derivative but out of nowhere, I think if he had ever become a father (to legitimate children) he would have been strict and distant with his sons but guarded his daughters like some kind of a daughter-hoarding dragon. No suitor will ever be good enough.

I also see exactly your point. He’d be more of a high society dandy than an effeminate gay guy. Our modern views of gender representation and how it relates to sexuality are different than 200 years ago.

Delayed Stress Reaction! Yes! My roommate deals with this in a very much less dramatic or villainous way. Stress hits him after the fact. It’s how he deals with messed up situations where he has to act with a clear head.

Some of my Henry Lascelles headcanons, and I apologize in advance:

- went to Harrow school and was unpopular - hates his handsome and nautical cousins for no reason - was semi-adopted after the death of his parents by a nasty admiral uncle - would have gone to sea if he had been a second son - neglects an estate in the country - does not like animals - but has a favourite horse called Arsinoë - is surprisingly patriotic and even more surprisingly anti-slavery but the latter only because colonies’ cheap slave-grown crops are cutting into the incomes of English landowners (all this of course makes him a Tory) - lost his father too early to discover the man was an idiot as well as a brute - looks like his mum - morning person, but morning could be starting at noon, it all depends on when he got to bed - but he doesn’t sleep much - unless he’s been drinking more than usual - lives few doors down from Beau Brummell (canon), but fuck that dude - wears colour just to spite Beau Brummell - disgusted by vulgar whores, married ladies are so much better - never relaxes. ever. if he looks languid? dead inside. or drunk, this was the Regency era, after all. - always low-key ready to fight but that I believe is actually canon
