Newer, cleaner presentation post! The previous one was kind of a mess.

I'm Alcibiade, and I mostly post fanart and fancomics about either Touhou project or Danganronpa 2! I also make more casual posts sometimes, and yuri comics with original characters. I also occasionally make tutorials or posts about how I draw, and reblog cool stuff.

Most of what I create is about the ships that I like: mostly Marisa x Alice for Touhou Project but also Mokou x Keine and Maribel x Renko (I'd like to make fanarts of other ships as well) and Hajime x Nagito and Hajime x Chiaki for DR2: Goodbye Despair. I really love the Sdr2 cast and many Touhou characters, so you can expect other ships or characters to show!

"Dance, dance, doll of mine!" another MariAli comic (my first fanfiction, actually!) about Alice's relationship to her family, inspired by Andersen's story with the same name. 日本語版 (Japanese version!)

Touhou project / Danganronpa2 crossover story! After Hajime and Nagito arrive in Gensokyo, Nagito get into a Chinchirorin battle with Reimu. Most of it is Asaka's work (op of the linked post) but it's still a collaboration nonetheless, so I decided to add it here!

How I draw the shadows and the lights in my comics. It's not really about drawing techniques or anything, and more about how I try to place them strategically in my panels. But it contains spoilers from my comics (especially Violet) because I use the panels as examples.

My friend just told me that Nakatani Nio, the author of Bloom into you, makes (or used to make) Touhou Project doujinshi! This is so cool!

That's right! I actually discovered her through her Touhou fan art, and I've been a big fan of Bloom into you since it started serialization. (To be honest, while I found it really captivating at first, I'm not particularly attached to the ending, so overall I wouldn't say I love it to an extreme degree—but I do think it really shows her artistic style.)

Violet - rambling about prosthetics, the french name of some plant, and girls dancing.

There are a few details that I wanted to explain about my MariAli comic Violet, so I decided to do it in this post (so there will be spoilers below the cut). I hope that you'll like it!

1) The second marisa-doll has a prosthetic leg in the epilogue, and I had a real life prosthetic reference for it!

When I was drawing the epilogue I was looking for references and I remembered that my friend Lottara ( @lottara-stuff ) knows a lot of stuff about prosthetics and she has exactly ONE prosthesis which is the EXACT model that I needed (the reason why she has it in the first place is a long story, lol). So I went at her place and took the pictures I needed. This one is from the beginning of the 20th century, apparently. Some parts are broken / missing but my friend was able to tell me how it was supposed to work! When she heard that I was going to mention it in a post, she wrote a little text for me to share here:

This artificial leg for right leg that was given to me is from around the end of the XIX or beginning of the XX century. It's made of leather (for the corset), wood (for the foot), maybe aluminum or nickel for the metal parts. There are a few more leather elements, mainly the straps (one is missing) and the upper joint of the foot. The laces are made from fabrics, and I don’t know if they are replacement or not. One of the absent leather straps is the one making a strap on the shoulder, to help the leg staying in place (which is not required now considering they stay in place in more recent models thanks to the help of a vacuum in the stump socket). The one I have is also equipped with a crank on the popliteal fossa of the leg, so it can fold. The foot also has the possibility to bend where the toes should be so the user has more agility, and the bottom of the foot is padded with leather; it's home to a shrew so you can detach it.

Even though, I don’t know the maker of this artificial leg (prosthesis is not a term which is used at the beginning of the XX century). Although visually it resembles a lot of prosthetics from the same period, whether artifacts or engraving of the time.

2) The plants at the entrance of the Scarlet Devil's mansion are named alkekengi

I chose them because I thought that their dramatic look would go well with the aesthetic of a Vampire's mansion. But there's more to these flowers: the story could have been named like that instead of "Violet" because in France, people call it "amour en cage", meaning "caged lover" or "caged love". And since Violet compares herself to the bird in the cage of Alice's workshop, I thought that the alkekengi was also a fitting comparison. But I don't think it's called "caged love" in english.

The second reason why Alkekengi was put at the entrance of the Scarlet Devil mansion is because Sakuya, who is supposed to be a human like Marisa, didn't die (as you can see her in the epilogue). I imagined that Remilia turned her into a vampire to keep her around (whether it's for romantic reasons or because she's such a good maid, haha). So the comparison with the plant also works for her, I think.

3) the scenes of Marisa and Alice dancing together in Violet was supposed to be a reminder of the dancing scenes in my first MariAli comic,"Dance, dance, doll of mine!".

It's not much, but I just decided to include a scene of them dancing in this comic too so I could imply that the two stories happened in the same timeline; Alice wanting Marisa-doll to dance with her the way the real Marisa did in the other comic (if the two stories are linked, it means that Alice is also a doll in the Violet story, meaning that basically everyone is a doll here, haha). But I didn't reproduce the same characteristic frames Alice had all over her home in "Dance dance doll of mine" because I don't want this particular interpretation to be too clear-cut or anything.

Mystery Surrounds Girl Resembling Late Magician

Have you heard the recent rumors about a mysterious girl who has taken up residence in the Forest of Magic?

According to reports, she bears a striking resemblance to both the late magician Marisa Kirisame (human) and the doll manipulating witch Alice Margatroid. During the day, she is said to be polite and well mannered. However, once night falls, her personality changes completely, and she reportedly leads a bunch of stray animals while behaving in a wild and aggressive manner.

One theory suggests that this phenomenon is caused by the spirit of Marisa Kirisame, who once lived in the Forest of Magic, haunting the forest itself.

To investigate this claim, we sought the opinion of a renowned expert on ghosts, ghost princess Yuyuko Saigyouji herself.

"An interview? If you're asking for my cooperation, shouldn't you at least bring some delicious sweets as a gift?"

While this reporter has requested her cooperation on previous occasions, not once have sweets ever been provided. Upon being informed of this fact, she replied:

"That doesn't mean I wouldn't want them. Well, if you insist. You wanted to ask about a spirit from the world above? Then talk to Youmu. I leave the management of surface spirits to her."

As a result, we were unable to obtain any useful information from Lady Yuyuko and instead turned to Hakugyokurou's gardener, Youmu Konpaku.

"A ghost living in the forest? You don't mean an actual ghost, do you? I'm really not good with ghosts..."

At this point she clutched her sword to her chest and visibly began to tremble.

When it was pointed out that she herself is half spirit, she responded:

"That's true, but scary things are still scary. Besides, ordinary ghosts generally don't even possess a humanoid form."

In any case, she agreed to accompany us to the forest, and we immediately began our search for the mysterious girl.

Surprisingly, it did not take long to find her. We successfully captured the photograph printed alongside this article.

Leaving any negotiations with the supposed spirit to the gardener, our reporting team observed from behind a nearby tree while taking photographs.

After exchanging only a few words with the girl, the gardener returned to us.

When asked whether the spirit needed to be cut down, she replied:

"She isn't a ghost. Nor is she a vengeful spirit or anything of that sort. But if you ask me what she is instead... well..."

Based on the gardener's report, the girl appears to be something closer to a youkai than a spirit.

If that is the case, then why does she resemble the late magician so closely?

We attempted to question the girl directly in pursuit of this mystery, but by that time she had already vanished from sight.

Our reporting team intends to continue investigating this strange case. Readers who wish to learn the truth are encouraged to look forward to the next issue.

I already went on about it so it will probably feel like I'm repeating myself over and over. Sorry about it. 😭Moreover, my addition to this reblog is particularly uninteresting so if anyone reads this, please stop and just go read that adorable article and look at this Violet fanart again.

The background is so whimsical and lovely and mysterious, I think the darkness and the swarming details of the forest makes a perfect parallel / contrast with Violet's innocent face and pale clothing while adding to the mystery of who, or what, she could be! I'm also glad to see that she fixed the bird shaped scissors. 🥰🙂The article setup itself is so nice too!!

And I just love Yuyuko's and Youmu's reactions so much! 😭🥹 I wouldn't know how to describe it, but from what I've seen, Yuyuko's dialogues always leave that kind of impression on me. So I did't know if my experience of her character was truly exhaustive or not, or if the english translation somehow warped my understanding of her, but while reading Aya's article here, I really thought that she couldn't feel more real to me than this. 🤣

Youmu being so afraid of ghosts even though she is half spirit herself made me laugh out loud. Because I have so little data about many characters except for what we can see in-game (and only in the games I've played so far, so it's not a lot), I would'nt have many comments to make about it, but I just wanted to add that the relative incompetence of these characters is one of the thing that I love the most about them, haha.

Seeing Violet getting included in Gensokyo with such cool articles and lively and adorable interactions really makes me so happy! 🥰🥰🥰 I love your art and stories so much!

My tiny Marisa figure now has her Alice!

My friend made both of them from a Frostgrave witch kit, and then she sculpted to reproduce some of Alice's and Marisa's features. I took care of the painting. I'm so happy with how Alice turned out! My friend even sculpted her a tiny shanghai carrying a knife!! They decorate the top of my second screen now. 🥰

I'm so happy to share the end of the story!!! I don't know what I'm going to do with my life now, lol (I do, actually, haha. I have more comics to make!). I've been working on this for more than a year now so working on it became a part of my life, haha. It's hard to just let it go and post the epilogue and conclude this story forever, but I try and think about everything that I'll be able to improve for my next comics and I'm truly looking forward to it. Making stories is addictive!! I can't thank enough all the very kind people who followed the story through the chapter releases and sent me various forms of reactions. Having real time feedback to a story which is not yet completed brought me a rare form of joy and fulfilness I can't really describe. And not only I would never have been able to make such a long story if I didn't have that, but I'm also sure that the result would have been very different if you didn't sent me such interesting, motivating and genuine feedback. Sometime you can be too caught up in your own head and your motivating words truly helped me to see the beauty in things again, and also notice and develop aspects of the story that I wouldn't have thought of developing without your eyes. I am thankful that I had such a wonderful audience and that I got to feel that way. I truly hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did, and that the ending live up to your expecations. 🖤✨

I just have to change a few things in the epilogue, export it for Tumblr and it's all good!! Except that my third chapter was flagged by Tumblr as being a potential adult content for some reason, so I don't know if it's still visible for everyone or if some of you can't see it for that reason... I reported that it was an error, I hope that it will be fixed soon, but yeah. It pisses me off a little. 😖😖 If my comics get classified as adult content I'm just going to make adult content for real lol

Although on a more cheerful note, a well-known speedrun event from my country featured a Touhou 8 speedrun on Lunatic difficulty by @nomnomsandwich yesterday, and it was truly a pleasure to watch it! I don't really watch someone else play Touhou at that difficulty often, and it was really cool to see that she seemed to be having so much fun, lol. Touhou is so beautiful, it's nice to be able to admire it without being the one struggling with the game, haha. It was really nice to have such a cool distraction while working on the end of the comic.

He's so CUTE probably if Hajime asked he'd get mad at the insinuation aaaa as only expected of the Ultimate Danganronpa 2 Enjoyer @justamathgay the moments are engraved in the brain!!

Honestly Gundham to me is like the more you think about him in hindsight the better he gets and I'm glad that free time event appreciation posts can always end up being both protagonist appreciation and that character appreciation. Gundham has a very interesting combo of traits and on replays I found myself appreciating the sense of independence Gundham has because he has a set of principles and things that to him are priority and he holds them in high regard, while also sharing in the general free time event theme relating to trust issues. Gundham isolates himself because he doesn't believe in any person and fears what might happen if someone gets close to him, but he ends up acknowledging Hajime in the final free time event when he says that he doesn't want anything out of Gundham:

At least that's kinda the reading I have of it, that Hajime just feels a sense of comradery and doesn't want Gundham to be any different or demand anything out of him, because he respects him just the way he is. Which leads into the final part as Gundham brands Hajime as a "singularity" and allows him to touch him:

But Hajime is also SO cute here???? The way he rolls with Gundham's vibe, but then wants to convey his own feelings so he puts them into his handshake instead of putting it into words to make sure Gundham gets the message without feeling comfortable? AND that final thought he has??? That final thought he has???? He doesn't think that in any other free time event?? It's just Gundham???? And it's really interesting to me because usually Hajime talks about the way the strong bond he has with the other person makes him more resolute and makes him want to see the other person do cool things or get out the island but here with Gundham he points to himself at how he feels acknowledged by Gundham and at how being acknowledged in general is rare for him HAJIME??

Violet - Unused panels

The epilogue for my Touhou comic Violet is almost finished now (here is the latest chapter, if you didn't see it), and I'm working on modifying all the previous chapters' tiny mistakes here and there for now. I had to navigate between a lot of stuff lately, so I'm sorry for the wait, but it won't take much longer now!!

It's pretty rare for me to redo entire pages, but it happened a few times, so I deciced to make a post about these unused pages because even if they didn't make it in the end, I still like them. it's not a post about content that got cut, though. All these pages are like alternate versions of pages that still exist in the final story!

First, we have the page on the left which finally became the one on the right:

The first two chapters have undergone many changes before the final published versions. At first, I wanted to publish the whole comic in one post, but I realized that it was going to be too long... haha. 😅😅 And it also took me a lot of time to realize it, but it was very rare for Marisa and Alice to share genuine affection in this comic at first, and I was too focused on showing the more disturbing parts. So this particular page was changed to be a more bittersweet moment between them, even if it's tainted with Alice's obsession for the past Marisa (some other pages were added to show cuter scenes of them both). I also wanted it to be more interesting visually than before, and speechless.

The other redraws are all full pages at the beginning of a chapter. They are placed below in chronological order, from the first version on the left to the last one, on the right:

The first thing you can notice is the page count that kept changing, haha. 😅 At first, the focus was made on Patchouli, but I wanted the page to feature a view of Alice's house from the forest's point of view to foreshadow the next chapters and highlight Alice and Marisa's isolation. But then I realized that it would be a bit misleading to have patchouli occupy almost 50% of the first panel, but then be absent of the whole chapter except for one page, so I decided to erase her and show her next to the door in the background. It was a bit heartbreaking to erase her though, because I loved the previous version more, but that's how it is. 💔💔 To be fully honest, I'm thinking about adding birds to the last version of the panel on some of the tree's branches, to add more interesting elements to the picture and establish a parallel between the "free birds" and the caged bird at Alice's place. But if I keep adding myself more work, so...

Lastly, the 57th panel is the one which was redone the most. I struggled to find something that looked satisfying. But I still love all of them, because all the little changes create slightly different atmospheres: when we see Alice's face, we empathize more with her, and when we see her back, she looked more menacing and distant. When the Master Spark's stars occupy a lot of space, I think we focus more on what happened between the Marisa dolls; and when the stars are more absent, Alice's thinking seems louder and the actions of the dolls more distant, secondary (I know that it's not so clear-cut and that it can be interpreted in many ways, so I hope that I didn't missed anything too important that ruined my panels, lol). In the end, I think I kept the final version because it looked more ambivalent than the others. I like how little choices can produce different panels with different meanings. It's cool to think about what a story could have became if you focused on another angle, and the possibilities feel endless. I really want to keep exploring different aspects of it and share the joy of creating stories with others, and keep on having fun! 🥹🥰 edit: If you found mistakes or other inconvenient elements while reading the previous chapters, please let me know! I'm already covering small issues like ring placements, clothing inacurracies, etc. for now. :)

I’m finally getting around to making progress on videos after moving states and many other disruptions. The video I’m working on I decided to make into a google slide to one, no longer have to overthink it and get it out there, and two, simply because it’s funny. I’ve struggled to get this video out for 2 years! I’m revising my fourth script rewrite for most of it and I realized my section for poison is really lacking so I’m asking around what “poison -劇薬-” is means to you and how you personally interpret it alongside other people to get more perspectives so I can enhance my section for my video and come to a more fulfilling personal interpretation or understanding.

It’s wonderful to hear that you’ve decided to share your work in a different format! That’s far better than letting all that effort go unseen. You should be proud of the fact that your passion has kept you going for over two years! (⁎˃ᴗ˂)

Regarding your question, the lyrics to “poison -劇薬-” are quite difficult to interpret. I think the main point of debate among fans is who the “him” in the lyrics refers to. My initial impression is that Ogata intentionally avoided making it explicit, leaving it open to interpretation as either Makoto or Hajime.

I’ve seen some people suggest that it refers to Izuru, but personally, I find that less convincing than the Makoto or Hajime interpretation. From the lyrics, it feels clear that Nagito is trying to support someone who has the will to move beyond despair toward hope, and I don’t think Izuru fully fits that description.

There are parts of the lyrics that seem to point to Makoto, and others that seem to point to Hajime.

For example, the following line could apply to both:

平凡で退屈な民　世界の大部分　弱者だからこそ

Although Makoto has been recognized as talented by the HPA, he considers himself average, so it’s difficult to determine definitively which one this refers to.

On the other hand, the following line feels more closely associated with Makoto:

絶望の淵に立ち　そこから為し得る大金星(ジャイアントキリング)

The term “大金星”—which means a huge victory—is read as “giant-killing" here, and I feel that Makoto’s achievement fits that idea particularly well.

Of course, Hajime’s awakening at the end of DR2 was also crucial—without it, Makoto would have remained trapped in the NWP. In that sense, it was an important victory. However, since Makoto was the one who ultimately defeated Junko, a threat to the entire world, I feel he aligns more closely with the image of a “giant-killing.”

That said, since the phrase uses “為し得る" (what can be achieved), it could also be interpreted as referring to a future victory, in which case Hajime would fit perfectly well.

Looking at the following line, however, the dynamic seems more reminiscent of Hajime:

最期の選択を　委ねられた君を　ただ瞰(み)ている

The use of “瞰”, which implies viewing from above, gives the impression that Nagito is observing the person entrusted with the final choice from a higher vantage point. This doesn’t quite match the dynamic between Makoto and Nagito. 🤔

That said, it’s not entirely accurate to apply this to Hajime either, since doing so would require interpreting Nagito’s consciousness as having floated somewhere during the final trial in order to watch over Hajime. Therefore, rather than being strictly factual, it leaves room for interpretation.

As a side note, Japanese distinguishes between “最後” and “最期,” both pronounced “saigo.” While “最後” generally means “final,” “最期” specifically refers to the moment of death. The lyrics make use of both.

One line that stands out in particular is:

I love, and want to understand him more than anyone else ...more, more than anyone else...

If I interpret this as his feelings toward Makoto, it seems a bit off to me. I don't feel uncomfortable with the line “I love him, and want to understand him,” but the fact that it’s followed by “more than anyone else” makes me wonder: Would Nagito's feelings of respect for Makoto really be mixed with such possessive emotions? 🤔

Makoto has close friends who survived the killing game with him, as well as his younger sister, so it’s difficult to imagine Nagito placing himself above them in that way. For that reason, it feels more natural to interpret this as referring to Hajime. If someone were to ask me here, “Why do you think that?” I’d probably end up talking for another two hours, so I’ll leave it at that!

Well, I can imagine someone saying, “But doesn’t that mean Nagito is referring to Hajime throughout the entire song?” 😅 As mentioned earlier, I think the lyrics deliberately avoid a definitive answer, so this is simply my interpretation of this particular section.

By the way, if we interpret the “him” in these lyrics as referring to Hajime, we could say that Nagito feels a tremendous, almost absolute devotion toward him, couldn’t we?
