I finished correcting minor mistakes in the previous chapters of Violet! 🥳
💬 2 🔁 18 ❤️ 69 · Soooooooo here is a new comic :) maybe you saw the few posts I made about it during the last few months. It's not finishe
I just have to change a few things in the epilogue, export it for Tumblr and it's all good!! Except that my third chapter was flagged by Tumblr as being a potential adult content for some reason, so I don't know if it's still visible for everyone or if some of you can't see it for that reason... I reported that it was an error, I hope that it will be fixed soon, but yeah. It pisses me off a little. 😖😖 If my comics get classified as adult content I'm just going to make adult content for real lol
I highly miscalculated the time that it would take to make a Nagito Komaeda comic for his birthday..... so once again it will be late as hell 😣😣😣.
hope you don't mind answering this but, what have inspired you to make Violet? anyways have a good day🫂
Hi Melody! I don't mind answering at all! 😊 Sorry for the wait though, I really enjoy answering asks and I wanted to take my time to answer properly (it ended up being very long, I hope it's not too indigestible to read 😖).
I really like stories about dolls and other beings like robots, monsters, etc. to begin with, so it's probably the main source. Touhou is a wonderful source of inspiration for that. The previous story was about Alice being a doll, and I'd like to continu making stories with such characters! 🥰
Violet is very largely inspired by Alice from Iron Sand Land (Satetsu-no-kuni-no-Alice) by RD Sounds (actually, @asaka-lucy-touhou told me about this song after I finished my previous MariAli fancomic "Dance, dance, doll of mine!"). Satetsu-no-kuni-no-Alice is a tragic story about Alice making a doll-copy of Marisa after she died. she's not directly mentioned but you can interpret it that way, at least. I found the post in which this topic was mentioned if you want to have a look! I could try and summarize it but I'm not the best at this kind of things, haha. 😅
After I finished the previous comic, I wanted to make something a little darker, so I really liked the synopsis of this song and wanted to make something based on this. It seems to be a popular theme among MariAli fans and I thought that it would be cool to have my own interpretation of it. 🥰 As you can see, it shifted a bit with time, because Violet isn't as dark as I initially thought it would be.😅
Another inspiration is the folktale of Barbe-bleue (Blue-beard). I don't really know if it's well-known outside of my country so i'll summarize it quickly: a young woman marries a very rich man who is known for having a blue beard. He had many wives in the past, but they all disappeared one after the other. The new spouse live with her new husband in his castle, and he gives her a bunch of keys to open all the doors in the place; but he strictly forbids her to open one special room in the whole castle. She gets curious and one day, when her husband is out, she goes into the forbidden room and finds all the corpses of his previous spouses. He eventually finds out what she did and tries to murder her with a knife, holding her by her hair, but she escapes with the help of other people, and they murder Barbe-bleue. Even though Barbe-bleue is obviously an evil person, I immediately thought that the idea of Alice forbidding Marisa Doll to go outside so that she doesn't find the true Marisa's grave would be very similar to this tale, so I wanted these stories to share similarities. My previous manga was even more heavily inspired by a fairy tale, so this is something that I really enjoy doing!
I didn't know how i wanted it to end right from the start, so a lot of themes and stuff were added halfway through so it doesn't really count as inspirations. Even so, I had some tropes or pictures I had in my head from the beginning and I wanted to add them early on: I wanted Marisa doll to get broken and her to feel empathy towards the animals and other dolls, I wanted sewing and doll conception to be important imagery in the story and include more ornemental, contemplative and poetic elements. I also wanted the house to feel more like a prison and the forest to be scarier. These last inspirations are not so visible in the end, and I kinda regret that, honestly. It would have made the story even longer, so I think I'll try to focus more on these sort of elements for my next, shorter stories! I could talk about this forever, but it would only become hazier and hazier, so I'll leave it like that. 😅😅 In the end, it's mostly inspired by how I see love and relationships and what I've experienced, and by what I think is interesting about this trope. 🥰 I hope my answer is what you were looking for.😊I wish you a great day as well! Thank you for your asking! 😊🫂
I've been looking out for physical Touhou doujinshis on my country's resale sites for quite some time now ( specialized sites probably exist, but I never heard about it, so I was looking on regular sites) and I finally found some! I was expecting them to be completely out of my budget, but luckily, they were surprisingly affordable.
I already knew about a few of them, but since I've been looking on my resale sites for a long time and could never find any, I actually NEVER expected to be able to own it one day. Touhou, yuri and fanmade comic books are among the things I like the most ever so I was very emotional when I received them, haha. I definitely wasn't expecting them to be that big, either. The very sweet and diverse art styles are also great to look at (I'm taking notes).
One of my goals would be to be able to read them in their original versions, even though I am extremely thankful that translation groups exists. But I probably won't be able to read them in Japanese anytime soon.
(sorry for the bad picture..)
Violet is officially the longest comic I ever made!
I started drawing it a bit more than a year ago, and I was working on the scenario even before that. The scenario changed a lot from what it was initially supposed to be, and I'm honestly so happy that it went this far. Making the scenario, the storyboard and the final panels brings joy to my life. It's one of the things I am the most proud of.
I know that my text posts don't reach that many people, but I am honestly so, so grateful for every every person who took the time to read it, leave comments, or kind tags in their reblogs. You guys bring light to my day and it makes me feel like it was definitely all worth the effort.
I wanted to say thank you so much to every person who reads it, on Tumblr and to my irl friends who also support me! 🎀💕💕💕💕💕
Some of them even started playing Touhou in the meantime, hehehe!
favorite word?
Probably "naphtaline". I don't know if it's the same in english, but in French (my native language) it has a very beautiful pronunciation. It kinda sounds like a very pretty name (even though nobody is named like that) but it's actually the name of a moth repellant that was so toxic it's now banned, lol. It's a white hydrocarbon known for destroying red blood cells if inhaled. It's also the name of a cool song of EZ3kiel, a band from where I live.
I'm not making much progress for my manga 😵💫
I tried to post the chapters of the Touhou manga I'm currently making at a regular pace, but the next ones will probably take more time than expected. I'm super exhausted at the moment. The next chapter is almost done, but I haven't started the next one after that at all, and I don't post any work in progress because it's going to contain spoilers. 😵💫 Plus, I have to make a sequel of this story for the collective zine I'm taking part in before the end of December. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I hope to get more free time and more energy soon, honestly.
Also, I am deeply touched by all the tags, comments, art and messages that I receive. And even though I know that my texts posts aren't very visible here, I wanted to thank all of you who read my stuff and leave comments or other types of reactions here. It means the world to me. I love you guys! 🫶
