I can only imagine that the people who had no idea what <famous was would have been absolutely baffled when walking past the long line to get into this little panel a week ago. Based on the turnout alone, and the sheer number of people that had to be (unfortunately) declined entry to the room, <famous must have looked like some oddly-named panel for some wildly popular, up-and-coming YouTuber(s).
In reality, <famous wasn’t about the panelists (though they are all wonderful, talented people) or the moderator (perhaps the greatest beard to grace the internet since a certain asthmatic waiter) or its passionate creator (a man I dare say is Hank Jr. in the making).
VidCon is a real, physical space in which the YouTube community and its countless sub-circles exist for a short period of time. This year, <famous managed to do the same—it was a place for smaller, casual YouTubers (and the wonderful community which we have created) to exist and interact with each other in a very real manner. For a brief hour or so, the seven dedicated members of <famous and an audience of a few hundred friends and fellow creators shared what I personally believe was the greatest moment of VidCon 2013. It was emotional, it was funny, it was friendly, and it was awesome.
And in the spirit of VidCon and YouTube, it was filmed. Those that were unable to attend the panel, or even the convention entirely, can now listen to what was said and hopefully experience a bit of what it was like to be in that room. <famous inspired me, and I hope it does the same for many others.
