Claire smiled at him to hide the itching feeling of annoyance towards the man. “Don’t worry I mean none such harm to your vendors, but it does make more sense to put the poisonous plants on a higher shelf. Children are very curious and like to eat things they are not supposed to. I would hate for one of your vendors to cause a child’s death. Although would it be their fault or the parents for not watching the child for that matter?”
Elijah eyed the plant in Claire’s hands, the market owner’s gaze already darkening. “Funnily enough, poisonous plants are not even meant to be sold here. Not until the evening time, when children aren’t allowed in the market,” the Tallis with remarked, holding his hand out for the Davenport to allow him to examine. “An excellent question, which I’m sure I’d be happy to discuss under the king with you, but let’s hope it doesn’t reach that point, and no children die, yes? That should be the ideal, Lady Davenport,” the market owner mused before turning his attention to the rest of the plants on the shelf, wondering if there were more poisonous plants on display. “That being said, what would the lady need with a poisonous plant? Surely she could find other means to cause people’s deaths? I would suggest her looks, for example. A man could gaze upon her and turn to stone,” Elijah chuckled, never stopping to find a moment for a small rib.
