she hadn’t budged from the nearby golf cart, preferring the shade as she nursed a cocktail given to her by one of the surrounding staff members. her intentions weren’t so subtle when she had caught her neighbor outdoors on his way to the course, wanting more than anything to have an excuse to leave the house that felt awfully too big and too empty that day. so, she offered to tag along wanting to ‘ learn more about the art of golf ’. a tiny grin crossed her lips as she looked out into the field in faux judgment when in reality, she could barely able to make out the ball. “ terrible. maybe instead of spending all of that time gardening, you could have worked on your aim. we’ve got to sort out your priorities, elijah. i’m pretty sure your daffodils are overwatered at this point. ”
eyes narrowed before he faced the culprit of the flying insults. “you can’t come out here... to my domain and talk to me in such a tone, lil’ lady.” his southern accent tried to peek through, but he recovered his learned accent almost immediately. a quick clear of his throat and he smiled -- couldn’t help it at the mention of his daily gardening hobby. “you know what? i don’t know if you’ve ever planted something before or even been able to keep a plant alive, but there’s something incredible about sustaining something else’s life. and since i obviously cannot bear children from my loins,” elijah paused, stifling a laugh before beginning again. “i have to do what i can.”
