My top choices for actors I think should play the Master, in no particular order.

Okay I know lots of people have had this idea already but I am very in support of it for self-indulgent sapphic reasons: Jodie Whittaker. The Centenary special planted the idea of a body-swap and even though it didn't happen, it could probably still be used as justification as to why the Master would regenerate into this face. also i can't find the post but someone somewhere had the idea of introducing a Whittaker!Master by pretending to be a multi-Doctor special (since time lords canonically forget when they cross their own timelines) and i haven't been able to get the idea out of my head since.

One day, I was struck by the thought that Taliesin Jaffe would probably be really good at playing the Master, and I figured there had to be a decent overlap between Critters and Whovians so I immediately went to tumblr to see if anyone else has had this thought before. which led me to Eric's TBD RPG and the discovery that apparently, Taliesin Jaffe has had this thought before! So he has technically played this role already. That being said, Eric's TBD RPG was obviously not canon to the BBC and I think they should give him a shot on the actual show.

Jack Wolfe. As I kind of elaborated on here. I just think he really has the range for it.

They’re toxic in an even greater way because as a disabled person, I didn’t realise till I was reading this how much I had internalised that. I genuinely have had feelings of fear and shame about using a chair or a walker if I get married. And why? Because I’m constantly seeing “heartwarming” stories about disabled people who shed their mobility aids for that moment. Why the hell am I afraid of using them to get married? Anyone who marries me or attends the wedding will know I need them and love me regardless.

Bless this post for making me realise I’d internalised that shit.

These types of stories teach people, both abled and disabled, that using mobility aids, especially wheelchairs, is inferior.

I made my addition to this post in June 2019. Its now January 2020 and I no longer feel guilty about the idea of going down the aisle one day with mobility aids.

This post floated by a few months ago, and I remember something to effect of there’s a difference between recovery and refusal. That is, like, I have a friend that suffered an incomplete spinal cord injury. He can walk again now, and I don’t think I’ve seen him use his chair in a few years. When he walked at his graduation, it was to show off his recovery. That he wasn’t quite ready to go through a full day upright, but he could walk across a stage, unassisted, and soon he would be able to do that every day. There’s also a difference in someone like me choosing to not use a mobility aid. My mobility is intensely fluid, especially seasonally. So, I would plan a summer wedding. And while I love my cane it can also be the biggest pain in my ass, so I’d want to just go unassisted. But that’s normal for me, at least right now. I can walk without an aid during about half of the year. It’s reasonable to assume I can make it through one day without it. All of that is different than someone that is fully and permanently paralyzed, that will never walk again, dragging themselves along because they feel that’s somehow better. Overall though, my biggest takeaway is fuck the media. Because disabled people should be able to make whatever decision they want without the media turning it into this grand inspirational story.

on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.

i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability

i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain

idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though

if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!

So I watched TVL with 4 offline (off tumblr/X/fandom spaces) friends. There’s been some interest when I’ve talked about their reaction to this season, so I decided to make a post about it.

We watched Iwtv when it was dropped on Netflix and all loved it!! Louis is my favorite, 2 has Claudia, one has Armand and one has Lestat as their favorite. We are a diverse group from different backgrounds with differing opinions on characters and the show.

We watched the Rolin cut of the trailer together and discussed it for like an hour after. We were excited. We have watched HOTD together, so incest was not a new topic. We just finished watching half-man at that point, which deals with abuse and parent-child CSA. None of these topics are new to the group, and we were excited to see it explored in tvl, seeing how we loved IWTV.

I am the only superfan and watched the episodes as soon as they dropped. We watched it together afterwards and that was the first time any of them watched it.

S3e1 - The tonal change was felt, they didn’t think it was as good as IWTV but were still extremely hyped for the show.

By s3e2 most didn’t think it was as good as iwtv. The writing and story telling wasn’t up to par but still enjoyable.

They felt there was no proper build up to a lot of things happening. That it was impossible to understand or follow the plot. We needed to pause a lot so I could explain book lore.

Needless to say everyone hated Gabi and every second she was on screen. We were still hopeful they were gonna do something good with her.

S3e3 was very well received. The hype was back. They loved what they did with Magnus, and wished we got to see more of him (not more of Lestat’s abuse to be clear. But more Magnus.) they felt so much empathy for Lestat. They loved Louis killing Bruce. We were discussing what routes the show might take with Gabriella and how Lestat’s sexualization by others was so damaging to him.

Then s3e4 happened and it really changed stuff. Mainly how sexual abuse and victimhood was handled. The Gabistat flashbacks were NOT well received. ESP how graphic they were. That was extremely unnecessary and felt fetishy.

After that one almost dropped the show but decided to continue watching it. But they left the room during Gabriella scenes, and came back and we explained the gist of the scenes after that.

S3e5 was like a train wreck. The enjoyable moments could not be enjoyed. Louis felt unrecognizable at times to them, and they felt like we didn’t see him get that low mentally.

We watched s3e6 and the finale in the same sitting. I had warned them about the last 2 episodes… and they decided to still watch it because they wanted to know how it’s gonna end.

Everyone disliked the episodes. There were some good moments but… yea. The show was paused after the seance and a discussion was had for about an hour and a half about how horrid it was. The Claudia fans had been so excited for her and for her to lay into Lestat and Louis… the way it was executed was not well received.

Louis and Armand. It was anti black and Islamophobic. It was uncomfortable to watch. One of my friends is a Muslim war refugee and her favorite character is Armand. This scene was very hard for her to watch and she was incredibly upset. Everything we felt about this scene has been said by others.

Other than that the finale with Lestat’s scenes had some good moments but were largely unsatisfying. They were expecting him to recon with the monster he had been, to confront his abusers and those he had abused… the fact that Claudia was missing - they hated it.

One of my friends had hopes that the real Claudia would be there and expose him for paying the witch to lie to Louis so Louis would let go over his grief and get back with Lestat 😭

Nope. It was a like “that’s it?!?!!?”

We wanted Lestat’s sexual abuse and the sexualization he was put through this season to lead up to a realization and a point. It didn’t. So now we just feel as if the show sexualized Lestat to be like “ooo hot naked man~” and not to say something about it. The incest plot was handled poorly and now felt fetishy. We have watched other shows handle this without sexualizing victims and the abuse. We watched THIS show do that with Armand. Bad taste in out mouth.

Again cannot say this louder - they all hate Gabriella. Hating Lestat season one was entertaining and a great part of the show, hating Armand s2 was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. The horror we felt during s2e5 and after was AMAZING we were all on edge. Gabriella wasn’t fun to hate, we felt as though she fulfilled no purpose, no one was scared of her, it ruined the viewer experience.

We all thought they confirmed Lestat killed Paul. One of my friends has believed that since s1, and felt vindicated.

They would have dropped the show after s3e4 if they were watching it alone. We don’t discuss TVL at all anymore. But Iwtv still comes up in discussions!

Claudia and Louis are very beloved to all of us! Armand and Lestat we have mixed opinions on but we all find them interesting. I am the only one who liked Daniel and got shitted on for it during our TVL watch…🥲

Yes, some disabilities are dynamic, and most of us in the disability community know this. However many people aren’t aware of just how dynamic some conditions can be.

A person can go from no symptoms at all to being profoundly debilitated all in one day.

Some have baseline symptoms so low and flares so high, that things can go from 1 to 10 very quickly.

I know it can seem impossible that some people’s disabilities fluctuate with such extreme variability, but this is a real phenomenon that people deal with.

I know this might feel unnecessarily emotional to people but it means a lot to me/us. I miss being able to do things without worrying if I’m going to be in pain the rest of the day or the next day. It’s hard to not miss those ugly years where things were nightmarish yet easier
