Style Crush: Drew Barrymore

Never have I seen someone who's more girl-crushworthy than Drew Barrymore!  She's got all the important stuff:  She's naturally gorgeous, obviously, with a quirkiness that makes her relatable, and the ability to pull off literally ANY haircolor.

But probably her best quality as an idol is her style.  It's equal parts awesome and impossible to pin down, this weird combo of airy-fairy hippie queen and glam old-school goddess.

As recycled-fashion-loving, thrift-store worshiping types, we love her even more, since she was one of the first celebs to announce that she'd bought her red-carpet look from a thrift store back in this era:

She'd buy two old slips, layer them on top of each other, put flowers in her hair and call it a day!  

In 2010, she wore this

And announced she bought it a thrift store in Austin, Texas for $25. (Love those heels too, by the way.)

She has an awesome ability to layer and combine fabrics and concepts to be so much better than they would be alone.  Like this:

Whatever three pieces she piled on here look SO amazing together!  But alone, each probably wouldn't be as fantastic.

Welcome to ELISEnotes!

Hi, Elise friends! 

We were inspired to start a blog where we could share a little more than we do on our Facebook and Twitter, and even our newly-signed-up-for Instagram!

Here's the thing:  We read all the time about the latest trends and most fun looks of the moment, but we live on Maui--read, hot, humid and EXTREMELY casual. So a lot of these fun styles seem to just pass us by while we're wearing a see-through sundress over a bikini.

NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

But...maybe it would be fun to figure out some ways to make the trends happen in our easy-breezy lifestyle!  We could do that, right? 

So we'll throw you a little inspiration along the way, along with some thoughts on how it can realistically work in the tropical spot we're so lucky to call home.

So we're starting with a tough one: LEATHER!

It's everywhere, it's edgy and oh so fun..but oh so HOT, in more ways than one!  Maybe you're down for leather pants, God bless you, and if you are, please stop in so we can see your sexiness!

BUT

Most of us probably aren't going that way.

So we dug up some pics that might work for you,  or us:

VESTS!

Here's Lindsay Lohan rocking a cool leather vest and booties, and an overall laid back look:

This could work, right?  If the boots are too hot, you could always do platform sandals.

Pants may be overkill, but you could always do shorts:

Obviously, the leather doesn't have to be the real deal if you don't feel like paying the price!

If you just don't want to commit to full clothing pieces in leather, there's always accessories!
