I think many users in this tag have completely gone off the deep end with cancel culture after season 15. It’s one thing to stop supporting someone because you disagree with their views or things they have said and done on the live feeds. It’s okay to even point it out as a racist statement or behavior.
But to latch on to every single thing these contestants do or say, and label them racist, trash, scum, and hope their employment and mental well being is destroyed when they get off the show is disturbing.
Call it what you want, but these forms of cancel culture are not linked to the pursuit of racial equity, cultural sensitivity, or social justice. It’s the exact opposite, it’s hypocritical and shows a complete lack of empathy for people.
In my opinion, these contestants have not done or said anything on this show that would make me believe they are racists threatening minorities’ welfare in society.
There are many forms and levels of racism. All are bad. But those with no obvious ill intentions should be educated, not harassed.
Put your efforts vocalizing about actual racists in our society; like the judges who have a history of higher sentencing for minorities; the police departments disproportionately killing black people; or the lawmakers, at the expense of those living in poverty, making biased laws to build wealth for upper class business owners in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, law, and other monopolies.
You really said be mad at racists but not those racists. The issue is for example Christmas, who has received a lot pf criticism this season, has called Bayleigh and other poc in the house “aggressive” and other similar things, which sure may not directly be overt racism, but that is the same language that ends up with black people shot by police officers
Racism, no matter how covert, is still racism, and it still upholds systems which do harm black people, even if they don’t directly hurt black people in an overt way. Covert and overt racism are equally wromg and deserve to be called out.
Also I could see saying educate people but we know this cast. We’ve seen their behavior on feeds, we’ve onteracted with them on social media, many of them refuse to be held accountable for their actions, I’m all for educating people but if they refuse to be held accountable they cant be educated because that is refusing to be educated. Tyler leveraging BLM then angela excusing his actions without pauing any mind to actual black people is racist, and her dounling down and saying report people for callimg out racism and ableism, is a prime example of someone, again, refusing to be educated. Christmas acknowledging the bullying on her season while distancing herself from it is refusing to be educated.
Nicole A talking about how great michie last season was then being told that he is racist, being sent examples and saying she cant look at them then it would be real, is racist, that excuses racism and perpetuates racism.
Covert and over racism alike hve real world affects for black people, so quite frankly your need to police what black people in the tag are saying is invalid.
If you’re mad that people face consequences and people want people to face consequences, that sounds like a you problem. And in a society where everything is commodified including labor of course people are going to leverage jobs and capital?
People can vocalize about systemic over racism and covert racism at the same time. We’re capable of multitasking. You can’t just tell the poc in the tag that well that racism isnt overt enough so it doesnt count. Thats not how that works
I believe we’re all racists, including you. I don’t believe we currently live in a world that gave me or you, and these contestants, a fighting chance to never make a racist statement or behavior when you’re recorded 24/7.
I believe we are influenced by our own lived experiences. Unfortunately, that means American culture. I personally feel that everyday American citizens are not the ones responsible for systemic racism. Racists with power and money in those systems are.
I’m not telling POC how to feel about anything. I’m stating that I think it’s hypocritical to target, bully, harass, and wish harm upon contestants on a reality show in the name of social justice, because they’ve made racist statements. There should be more productive and helpful ways of addressing micro-aggressions and problematic statements. Otherwise me and you would be out of a job as well.
Like I said in my post, I think it’s best to educate. That doesn’t mean you can’t be upset or angry. But displaced anger doesn’t do anything but divide.
Quite frankly I don’t think you actually read what I said. Like I said education is great and people who are receptive of that, that’s great, but the issue at hand is the people we are talking about refuse to be. And you have been trying to police how poc in the tag have said they feel. You literally said in your opinion that they weren’t being racist which many poc in the tag have said the houseguests have been racist.
I find it to be backpeddling to say “well i dont think theyve been racist” then to come here and say everyone is racist. What is it? Also what is this “including you” stuff I am well aware of that, I am well aware that, as someone who grew up in this society, I was also taught these things, and i never said that I wasn’t subject to the same ingrained beliefs we are taught. However I also dont go around calling black women aggressive and I also try to listen to the people around me to better educate myself when I faulter and even when I dont. Also like as an ally, even if I am not perfect (as I am not), its still important to speak up when I see other white people being racist. That is what allies should do. We shouldnt stay silent just because we are subject to the same racist indoctrination, and it isnt hypocrisy to speak up against racism, idk how you have that idea in your head. Speaking up is what will hopefully lead to less racism.
And honestly, I really dont care if youre upset that theyre facing consequences for their actions, because that is whats happening. People who do wrong things and refuse to be educated, in the past and the present deserve consequences for their actions. And as many people have already also said to you a lot of these consequences dont actually have much long term affects om these people. Theyll be fine even if theyre a little uncomfortable for awhile.
I said they “haven’t done anything that makes me believe their racists threatening the welfare of minorities.” I never said they weren’t racist.
My point is, these houseguests aren’t out here systemically oppressing and murdering minorities. 100 percent work to remove those horrendous types of individuals from those positions of power however you see fit. But addressing everyday micro aggressions, and problematic behaviours with bullying, hate, and threats to ruin someone’s livelihood, I don’t stand stand by; and again, I think it’s hypocritical.
For example, I’m vegan, but I’m not out here just waiting for someone to take a bite of meat or talk about the leather purse they purchased so I can make them feel like pieces of shit because their choosing to somehow contribute to the largest mass slaughtering of species ever recorded. They don’t know better, their ignorant, and their a product of societal norms and habitual human nature. It’s completely out of their control. There’s things I’m ignorant in regards to, as well. But at the same, this won’t stop me from educating these people on the ethical and health benefits associated with not eating meat. The real problem are the lawmakers and large food industries torturing millions of animals and brainwashing society to think we need their meat to survive.
