Taylor Swift - whipped by the CCP
On November 11, 2019 Taylor Swift played “Singles Day” in China. Singles Day is equivalent to America’s Black Friday. Why was it that I only saw right wing conservative websites like Breitbart talking about it? Taylor Swift was performing in China while Hong Kong protestors gave their lives in the street. It doesn’t come as that big of a surprise that Taylor Swift would sell herself out to China when you look at how much money she has made there. What is surprising is that Taylor Swift is trying to turn her brand around now and try to present herself as “woke”. This woman has done car commercials in China before, probably because she was much too embarrassed to them be aired in the states. She also did a Capital One bank commercial last year, as though her young fans need encouragement to get credit cards and spend more money on her over priced merchandise. I would love to know what Taylor Swift has to say about the CCPs crackdown on Tibetan monks, buddhists, and Uighur Muslims (that they currently have in “re-education camps”)
In 2019 that wasn’t the first time she crossed a picket line for cash though. Swift had also, along with Dua Lipa, played an Amazon Prime concert when Amazon workers were having a strike. Amazon Prime was donating to ICE at the time of the protests.
During a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift said she had no idea that she was a symbol of white supremacy to Neo nazis. I find that hard to believe that she never knew she was a symbol for Neo Nazis. It sounds ridiculous, but I found myself constantly having to defend myself for liking her music before. People would assume I was conservative because I was a Taylor Swift fan that was white. If I was getting called a “Neo-Nazi” for liking her music, I highly doubt she never heard about herself being called one.
In 2017 The Daily Beast called on Taylor Swift to denounce her “Neo Nazi” admirers, especially because of the recent events in Charlottesville where actual Neo Nazis were gathering in the street inciting terror. No response from Ms. Swift except silence.
When a small blog put out an article about how they thought the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video was signaling white supremacists, Taylor Swift tried to send a cease and desist letter to the the blog instead of just denouncing white supremacists. I personally found the interpretation of the video not true, but everyone has the right to interpret art the way they want. The ACLU defended the blogger who linked Taylor Swift with white supremacy. The ACLU published the letter it sent to Swift’s lawyers, which explains how the First Amendment works, and makes some puns involving Swift’s popular songs.
Instead of denouncing Trump when he was running for office, she stayed silent out of fear of losing fans + money. Only when it was convenient to denounce Trump, when she saw the playing cards were laid out perfectly and the whole country hated him, did she so “bravely” tell us she doesn’t approve of Trump. It wasn’t brave to do the bare minimum when you are a privileged multi million dollar white woman.
In 2020 Taylor Swift put out a painfully tone deaf documentary, Miss Americana, that I think was supposed to make her seem more relatable to people. Instead, she just seemed like a sheltered millionaire who has no idea what it is like being an average person in this country. I am the same age as Taylor Swift. I became political at age 15. I started spending my time doing Food Not Bombs and feeding the homeless people. I don’t buy her bullshit that it took her until age 30 to be a moderate Democrat.
The year Taylor Swift decides to be “brave” and come out as a moderate Democrat she runs over to China and tap dances for Xi while Hong Kong Protestors were putting their life on the line. I guess the only bad dictators are Trump and Kanye, right Taylor? When Taylor Swift told the internet about her music being sold to Scooter Braun, she made it all about herself. Based off her posts most people probably didn’t even realize the other bands on Big Machine had their music sold too. That’s the thing. It’s always about her.
