Woodchester Mansion - One of UK’s most haunted places
Woodchester Mansion is believed to be one of UK’s most haunted places and is situated at the western end of Woodchester Park. The mansion in the Victorian Gothic Style has a long history, which goes way back to the 17th century.
The architect of the mansion as we know it today were Benjamin Bucknall and William Leigh, who started working on the mansion in the mid-1850s.
Leigh died in 1873 and the mansion was still unfinished, and remained unfinished to this day, though it belonged to relatives of Leigh after his death.
The strange thing is, that the workers one day just left the mansion and never returned, leaving all their tools behind. No one knows why they left and never came back.
Nowadays people have the chance to visit the unfinished mansion thanks to Trustees, which is why there is an entrance fee.
Woodchester Mansion got more popular after the TV programme “Most Haunted Live” featured the mansion in 2003 and again in 2015. It has then gotten more attention from ghost hunters, making it a popular place for hunters. Many have also claimed to have seen strange things happening at the mansion, believing it to be ghosts.
These strange sightings include weird blue light coming out of nowhere, as well as tapping noises, voices and figures.
It didn’t take long for the first paranormal investigators to claim to have found something supernatural:
On the 7th October 2005 a group of paranormal investigators stayed overnight at the mansion. To look further into paranormal activities, the group set up several cameras.
The group explained what they experienced that night and said that they saw a blue coloured light phenomenon that you could even see with the naked eye. It was even caught twice on camera on the second floor corridor.
The first light the group saw was the size of a ten pence coin and seemed to disappear at the knees of two investigators. One of the investigators then got the feeling of a déjà vu, which is why the blue light could have been electrical.
In addition to that the group actually caught something on camera, which could be a ghost. In the video that is set in the chapel of the mansion on the ground floor, you can see a white figure appearing and disappearing. The video can be found on youtube.
One could now claim that this white figure is only light from one of the investigators, but they claim that none of them was on the ground floor when this was recorded.
There have been many more ghost sightings, which haven’t been caught on camera, but a lot of people who visit the mansion claim to have made a paranormal experience or at least heard strange noises.
Either way, the mansion remains creepy and mysterious. Will we ever find out what happened at the mansion and why the workers left everything behind?
