her childhood was quiet, but warm. her parents were doting and kind, if not slightly prone to smothering their eldest daughter . . . often leaving her brother to get away with almost anything. she’s always suffered with often frustrating shyness, leaving her with a small circle and a tendency to get lost in her own head more often than not.
she took up writing in school as a way to express herself, penning short stories for the school paper and, like most soon to be complicated women, engaged with her teachers more often than her fellow students. university allowed her to come out of her shell a little more, though after her first real heartbreak in her final year, she allowed herself to write and write and write for weeks until she had completed her first novel.
fast forward several years and several heartbreaks later, ella chen is a popular romance novelist, though she’s feeling slightly pigeonholed by that genre as of late . . . which might have something to do with her latest debacle. she thought she had found the one, a nice man highly approved by her parents and successful to boot, but as she inched closer to her wedding day, she realized that she was bored. she always wrote about dizzying romances and adventures, but aside from stacked press tours that offered no real freedom, she’s never gotten to indulge. so ella hit her breaking point and booked a flight the night before her wedding, parting with an apology letter for everyone.
ella has no idea how she landed here, she had just gotten word that roswell was a strange little town in new mexico and she always liked the x files. regret is creeping in, but she also thinks this might be a good change of pace of her. something new, something fresh. a romantic by nature, she’s actually fallen in love with the area and just about everyone in it.
