JJ had been going through the sock drawer for hours trying to find a pair that matched but somehow all of them lacked their other halves. The clock was ticking, she was running late and she was still in her underwear. Meanwhile, steam flew out of the bathroom as Elle walked out in a towel, unaware of her girlfriend’s problem. “Uh, good morning to you and the girls,” she teased, smacking the blonde’s ass.
“Why are all my socks mismatched?” JJ groans. “I mean is it even mismatched if it’s all just a bunch of singles?” Elle smiled at JJ’s frustration. “You look cute like that, you know? stressed, fussy, and in your underwear,” she walks towards JJ, hands slithering their way to JJ’s hips. “Do you think they’ll notice if we call in sick?” JJ rolls her eyes. “And what would be your reason, agent Greenaway?” Elle smirks, leaning closer. “Your socks are mismatched and you look extremely tempting in your underwear?”
JJ squeezes her eyes shut, taking Elle’s damp hands off of her then going back to business finding a pair of matched socks. “Um, hello???” Elle calls, frozen in her spot. The blonde turns her head, “yes?” Elle groans, “I was giving you my attention.”
“Yes and now you can have it back because we’re running late,” JJ chuckles, hands rummaging the drawer. “Ugh, you know you won’t ever find the match for your socks in there,” Elle says, walking over to her drawer to find something to wear. “And why is that?”
“Because you won’t.”
JJ sighs, grabbing two mismatched socks. One with hearts all over it and another with a plain white sock with the letter J embroidered on the side. She takes a seat on the edge of the bed as she looks at her girlfriend who’s surprisingly dressed already. “I’d ask questions but we’re late and I’m too tired to press further. I’ll survive a day with mismatched socks.” JJ proceeds to put on her socks while Elle turns to open her sock drawer too.
“You won’t find them in your drawer cause they’re in mine.”
JJ looks up from fixing her socks. In front of her, Elle stood holding a pair of mismatched socks. One with hearts all over it and the other, a plain white sock with the letter E embroidered on the side. All of which a match to the ones she has on.
“When you started wearing flats to work, you stopped wearing the long socks and started wearing foot socks and I don’t know why but I felt bad for the socks in the drawers. So everytime I wore my boots, I’d take one half of your socks and wear them. I’ve been wearing mismatched socks for the past few months in hopes that if you wore the other half, we can be each other’s other half,” she explains with a smile.
“I know it’s stupid and it doesn’t make sense but it only has to make sense to me and—“ JJ stood up, a huge grin plastered all over her face as she hugs her girlfriend. “That is the corniest most romantic thing you’ve ever done.” She pulls apart from the hug, hands cupping Elle’s face, “I love you and I would gladly wear mismatched socks if it means matching with you, E.”
Elle grins. “Now that you’ve mentioned it, it is corny,” she chuckles. “I’m too badass for this.” JJ let out a laugh at Elle’s statement. “Thank you for making tiny gestures like this,” she smiles, smoothing down her shirt and putting on her pants. “It makes falling in love with you easier and somehow simpler.”
“I would do anything to have you smiling like that, Jayje,” Elle says gently. So gentle that it felt like a kiss and that’s more than what JJ could ask for. No matter how idiotic or corny it may be.
