About me, since it’s been a minute
New fandom, new mutuals. I go by Ellie because I’ve only ever known of one other person with my irl name and she’s a YouTuber with a large following. I’m of the generation that isn’t quite Gen X and isn’t quite Millenial but I feel stupid saying xennial. I’m a Cis female, lesbian, feminist with misandrist tendencies I am challenging daily and grown up fangirl.
I’m originally a PNW child but I’ve lived in Vermont for the last 15 years. Never thought I’d love New England as much as I do.
I work in healthcare at a large research hospital which has been a blessing since I was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer in January. I’m undergoing chemo bi-weekly while still trying to work as much as I can. I go through phases of needing to dissociate on Tumblr and wanting to do as many side quests as I can.
I have been in fandom since I was eighteen.
* I started writing popslash my first year in college, when LiveJournal was still owned by a company in Oregon and just starting out.
* The Backstreet Boys were my first love (Kevin was always and is still my favorite).
* I didn’t start writing fic until Nsync - I was a Lance/Chris girl alllll the way.
* Then came Supernatural and SPN RPF (super invested for three seasons. Then my mom died and a show about ghosts was no longer fun for me).
* Bandom was my jam for two years (I saw Panic! at the Disco 6 times in 2008 and had my picture taken with Fall Out Boy, which was so effing awkward)
* I did the Jonas Brothers fandom for a very strange few months in 2009
* From 2012-2015 I was all 1D allllll the time.
* The first three months of 2018 were spent obsessing over Call Me By Your Name and Timmy/Armie RPF (including writing more fic than I wrote in the previous 3 years combined)
* I fell hard for 5sos in June ‘18.
* Roswell, New Mexico was an intense and fun couple of months in the winter of 2019.
* 2020 brought me Julie and the Phantoms and Charlie and Owen, who still make my heart happy.
* Over a Christmas break in 2022 I binged KinnPorsche and Love in the Air and discovered the joy (and occasional frustration) of Thai BL. Favorite pairings are AouBoom, GeminiFourth and Joong with literally everyone, especially Jasper. Favorite BLs are My School President, the Heart Killers, Only Friends and Moonlight Chicken.
* I was all in for Heated Rivalry for a bit until the Hudcon truthers/K terrorists triggered my Larry PTSD.
* To no one’s surprise (especially given my obsession with besties Charlie and Owen for the majority of two years), WillMack pulled me in through the power of friendship. I’m sorry to all the bandom/1D writers who I rolled my eyes at when they became HRPF writers but I get it now. Hockey is just super gay, apparently.
I have seen most episodes of Psych an average of 30 times. It is my favorite show, there’s a quote for everything and it is my emotional support animal. I fall asleep to a random episode every night.
Other things I love:
* 90s country music
* every 80s movie ever (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Shag and Sixteen Candles especially)
* delis. Italian delis, Jewish delis, all delis.
* Youtube happy mail + junk journal videos
* road trips, particularly to quaint New England towns
* dogs, puffins and unicorns
With a couple of exceptions, I stopped knowing how to make online friendships around the time it became trendy to be anonymously hateful, which I realize now was about 10 years ago. I’ve found myself wanting a little more connection online, a reprieve from irl and the well meaning concern that comes with Having Cancer. If you see me reaching out with the awkwardness of a child learning to make friends for the first time, just know you are very cool and I’m internally freaking out.
