So, I saw this tiktok comment recently and I was like, "What?"
I genuinely need to talk about the way some people talk about Grayson because WHAT do you mean “his whole life was nothing but whining” 😭
Like did we read the same books??? Grayson spent basically his entire life being forced into a role he never asked for. he was raised to be responsible for everyone, constantly putting his family first, carrying guilt that was never entirely his to carry, and somehow people reduce all of that to “he whined too much” because he wasn’t constantly smiling and making jokes.
And the “he should’ve died instead of toby” part??? Yeah no. You can dislike Grayson. You can find him annoying. You can even hate his character if that’s what you’re into. But saying he should have died instead of another character is fcking weird, especially when you’re talking about someone whose entire character is built around grief, guilt, sacrifice and feeling responsible for everyone around him.
And honestly the funniest part is that Grayson is literally one of the characters who hides how much he’s struggling because he thinks he has to be the strong one. But apparently the second he actually shows any emotion, it’s “whining.” 😭 What do y’all want from him??
Not every character has to be charming 24/7 to be well-written. sometimes a character is miserable because they’re SUPPOSED to be miserable. Sometimes they make shitty decisions. sometimes they’re angry, bitter, distant, or difficult. that doesn’t automatically make their entire character pointless.
Y’all don’t have to like Grayson, but reducing everything he went through to “whining” is such a surface-level reading of his character. Like please reread the books before forming a whole dissertation on how annoying he is because i’m begging 😭
