i have thoughts.

i've been thinking about this all day long.

we were given two men who find love in a pandemic. this isn't the first time these two men have seen a virus take hold. we don't know their histories but we know that they were both alive during the AIDS epidemic. i think it's safe to say that frank probably had friends die. watched them get sick and watched them die. so, not only do these two men find love when the world has gone to chaos but they grow old together!

THEY GROW OLD TOGETHER!!

they get to.

THEY GET TO CONTROL WHEN THEY DIE. do you know how important that is?!?!? that they choose. when so many queer people have had their lives taken away from them. these two men get to choose.

we get to witness it.

they live a "normal" life. frank paints bill over and over again. bill takes care of frank. they take care of each other in their own ways.

during the scene where frank is painting and bill comes up with his watering can and winks i realized i was watching a queer story with old men. we have lost countless queer love stories because they've been hidden or destroyed; and here this fucking tv show gives us a beautiful, calm, kind, thoughtful, loving gay romance.

i know that this could have been better written but i don't care. we so rarely get to see old gays represented on screen. we so rarely get to see gay romance portrayed in such a respectful and loving manner.

the last of us showed people (who wouldn't normally get to see it) that gay romance is romance. that it encompasses everything (and more) that straight romance does.

it really is insane how waking up early will grant you access to some of the most beautiful sights and sensations in the world that will make you want to live forever, but only if you overcome the gauntlet of a thousand razors that is getting out of bed early. truly one of life's little saw traps.

I just watched a tlou2 gameplay (even though I've already played) and I remembered Joel thought ellie was straight + her and jesse had a mutual crush. If I'm not mistaken, Joel had sarah when he was a teen, so now I'm wonder if he ever worried about ellie around other kids in jackson (or even jesse, in this case), if the same situation would end up happening with her. I mean, Lorelai from Gilmore Girls worried about Rory's love life for the exact same reason

Of course, he was worried. Joel, not knowing that Ellie was into girls when they got into Jackson (and her being just 14 at the time), was going crazy whenever she was around boys. Especially if Jesse were friendly, I can only imagine what was going through his head. He immediately started thinking about himself and his teenage years and how he would have tried it with girls back at his time. And Jesse was almost Ellie's age, but a bit older, so… that was probably a big NO in Joel's book of rules. Although I don't think that he tried to interfere, I think he trusted Ellie's judgment more than anything, knowing her for a year already. But it's fun to imagine. I would love to see some scenes with guys hitting on Ellie and her brushing them off (without saying why), yet we all would know the reason.
