how can you save the world   if you canât even save yourself
AIDEN.
Ever since he met Elliot, Aiden just knew they were going to be very good friends. He could sense it and he was glad he got to know him. They worked in similar professions and would sometimes bump into each other at the hospital when Elliot was bringing someone in. He drank a bit of the wine and smiled as it did taste lovely and sweet. He rested more and let out a chuckle at the thought of sharing the bath. âYâknow my bath is only big enough for one right but donât tempt me.â He chuckled more and sat the glass down on his coffee table. âThat is good to hear. The hospital was quiet today. No major incidents so I managed to get through all my rounds. Everyone is recovering and quite quickly.â Aiden let out a soft sigh as he lifted his glass and drank some more wine.    âIâm just glad I have the day off tomorrow. A day of relaxation is certainly in need. Today felt like the start of that.â The music changed to something a little more up beat and began to make Aiden tap his foot in time with hit. âAre you working tomorrow, cause if you arenât we could do something together. Like just go for a drive somewhere or stay in, have a nice meal and watch a horror film or something like that.â
People always said that they were two peas in a pod, which was true. They both had naturally bright personalities, which caused them to always be smiling around each other for the most part. Goals seemed to be very important for the both of them and they seemed to have the same ones, help those that cannot help themselves and save those that need the saving. It was perfect. Elliot held the glass more firmly as he took another sip, moving it down to rest on his lap. âWell since Iâm clearly the bigger one between the two of us, youâd just have to be laying down on top of me or sitting on top of me.â He playfully winked as he nudged Aiden softly on his side. âReally? Thatâs the first in a while, glad that you had time to help everyone you were supposed to. Youâre like a modern day hero, or angel, you know that?â His eyebrows rose as he asked the question.
Elliot took another sip of the wine before filling his glass up again, noting that this had to be the first and last time he filled it up. If he was driving or walking home he couldnât be under the influence. âYouâre having the perfect night of relaxation to prepare for the weekend to come.â He shook his head slightly, Elliot was cleared for the whole weekend. âNope. Iâm free as a bird soaring through the sky.â He titled his head slightly to the side, looking over at Aiden. âLike what, you want to go on a road trip or have a spa day at home?â
JASON.
âItâs just from the looks of it, I guess. And you donât necessarily  look like anyone could harm you, really. So - whatâs wrong?â
âFor all you know someone could have kneed me in the balls and  robbed me or something. Although nothingâs really wrong. I just  wanted to warn you that there was recently a fire down that block  so there might still be some smoke around there.â
TOBIAS.
âOkay okay - it was me! That cake just looked  waaaay too good..â
Yes, Toby just ate an entire cake.
âHey, donât feel bad about it or anything. I just want  to make sure that youâre okay and not sick or any-  thing. Between you and me, I once at a whole entire  apple pie by myself.â
Even though this was a little bit crazy, it wasnât      anything bad.
???.
âOh my God, thank you so much. He was just too fast.â He said to the stranger that was holding Jakobâs three year old son. They had just gotten out of the supermarket â Jakob was holding two big grocery bags in his arms â when the little blonde boy had seen a dog at parking area and just ran off to pet it. Luckily enough, the other man had seen it and managed to hold the boy before anything happened. âI almost had a heart attack.â
âHonestly, donât worry about it. Iâm glad I could catch the little race car before he ran off.â Elliot grabbed a hold of the boyâs hand, looking over at the three year old with a bright smile on his face. âDonât you go running away from daddy again, okay? Heâll miss you too much and youâll miss him too.â He set the boy down on the ground, next to his father, and then stood straight up again. âAt that age theyâre most likely to be all over the place, so I get it. Did you need any help putting the groceries away or watching the adorable munchkin?â He couldnât help but chuckle softly as he looked over at the man. âIâm Elliot by the way, Elliot Matthews.â

âJasper, right?â Elliot wasnât used to the whole blind date thing, but his friends swore to him that this was going to be a good one. Against all of his good judgement he said yes and thatâs why he was meeting the other at a local cafe. Hopefully if it wasnât going to work out it wasnât going to get messy. The firefighter didnât even think that he needed to date, but apparently all of his friends thought otherwise. âIâm Elliot, Elliot Matthews.â He smiled slightly as he extended his hand for the other to shake after sitting down. âItâs a pleasure to meet you.â
???.
There was a small frown on the petite boyâs face, and he wasnât really sure if the other male was actually being sincere or if he was one of the bad guys. A lot of those seemed to hang around this part of town. He looked up at him, shaking his head. No, he wasnât okay - at all. âI â g-got lost.â, he muttered, rubbing his teary eyes with the ball of his fist. âIâm home a-alone over the holiday a-and I was j-just walking around because I g-got bored.â, he explained, a genuinely frightened expression on his face. âG-Got lost, sir.â
Usually Elliot didnât deal with people that were lost, but he couldnât just leave this boy here alone to fend for himself. This was one of the worst neighborhoods in town and he would never be able to live with himself if he heard something happened to the younger male. âJust donât go out exploring when you donât know the place to well, okay? My name is Elliot, Iâm a local EMT and firefighter.â He motioned for the boy to start following him, knowing exactly how to get out of this neighborhood. âWhatâs your name and where do you live? I think I can get you back home in no time, although it sucks youâre alone.â

âSorry, I think they called out the wrong coffee.âÂ
âItâs okay. I guess I could live without my fix for a couple of more minutes.â

âIs everything okay? Not many people that I know of just hang out here without there being a reason. Come on, you can tell me if somethingâs up.â Elliot nudged the petite boyâs side with his elbow, looking down at him with a worried expression on his face.
JASON.
âSo - what exactly did you do wrong?â
âWhy do you always assume Iâm the one who did something wrong?â

Both of his jobs required him to have to be quite fit, being able to move around quickly, carry things that are on the much heavier size. Elliot was already in good shape and a good size, but he couldnât slouch. He was like that because of all of the work that he put in. Thatâs why he tried to go to the gym as much as he could, that Sunday it was his fourth time that in one week and he thought that was already slacking. After doing his routine push ups and sit ups, it was time for something more challenging. Elliot jogged up to one of the regulars in the gym, someone who he had seen quite often, and waved over at him as he came to a stop. âHey man, nameâs Elliot. I was wondering if you could spot me? Iâd be willing to do the same to you.â
TOBIAS.
     âUh..I didnât do it!â
âThen who was it? I donât believe you.â
AIDEN.
It had been a quiet day at the hospital. Not many people were in serious trouble so his rounds were pretty simple and he was able to check on all of his patients on his router. He didnât have any other worldly visitors to help today either, which did feel a bit sad but then again, he had crossed over two earthbound spirits the other day, so today just felt like a bit of a relaxation, non stress day which seemed to be continuing with the text from Elliot as soon as he had got home from getting a few groceries. He quickly replied back, letting his best friend know that he was in and was happy for him to come over. He hadnât seen him for a few days so it would be great to catch up.    All the groceries were put away and he had lit some candles so that the apartment smelt nice. He had some relaxing music on softly in the background and was just waiting for Elliot to arrive. The door knocked and he got to his feet, travelling over to the door followed by a bark from his part time resident, Homer the dog. He had known Homer for all of his life and he enjoyed having him around. He did tend to stay with his mother more but there was the odd few times he would stay at Aidenâs home. âItâs just Elliot, Homer.â He said softly to the ghost dog as he opened the door and greeted the muscular male with a wide smile.    âVery nice.â He winked, taking the bottle and looking it over. âLooks like itâs a nice flavour. Come in, come in.â He moved out of the way, so to allow Elliot in and once he was he closed the door behind him and moved to the kitchen area. His apartment wasnât massive but it was big enough. The living room, dining room and kitchen were all found in the same area. âYou know, if you want to take a bath here, then you can. My home is yours.â He opened the wine and poured two glasses. âSo, how was your day?â He approached Elliot and handed him his glass, sitting on the sofa, his feet up behind him as he got cozy.
Now things were never exactly slow for the life that Elliot chose to live, but they were still normal. He actually didnât like the idea of taking things slow or things in his life not being fast paced. After his twin brother died those were the things that he turned to in order to not be left alone with his thoughts. They kept a smile on his face and his naturally optimistic attitude in place. Yet the other thing that the firemen turned to, something that he couldnât go at alone, were his friends. People like Aiden were the glue that held him close for so many years and after what happened to Edward they were probably the reason why he didnât have a full breakdown. It also wasnât bad that with Aiden around, he was sure that his brother had crossed into the light.
There was just something about the doctorâs company that Elliot couldnât quite shake. He had one of the biggest hearts in Grandview, always wore a smile on his face for at least seventy five percent of the day, and could lift up any mood that the man was in because he could seem to feel it as well. It was like they were meant to be in each otherâs lives, at least thatâs how the EMT saw it and wanted to think about it. Elliot loved having people to relate to, to be compassionate with, and to overall just have a good time with. Aiden was one of the few people who understood that drinking some wine on a quiet night could be just as fun as going out dancing.
âYou always know white wine is the best, the sweeter the better right?â He patted Aiden on the back as he walked into the familiar apartment. Elliot could probably name where every single thing was considering how much time he had spent there. He walked over to the couch, deciding to already get comfortable while Aiden prepared the drinks. âI know, but then Iâd probably never get out and leave you alone. Unless of course you join me.â Elliot chuckled softly as he grabbed a hold of his glass, already taking a small sip of the wine. He leaned back on the sofa, turning his upper body to face Aiden as his left shoulder rested on top of the couch. âI canât complain about it. There were no casualties on a fire down on eight first. What about you? Got to do all of your rounds for the day?â

First there was a fire in a nearby building and then it was Elliotâs shift as an EMT. Either though he didnât mind any of that, he loved being able to help, he still needed a way to wind down. Some form a relief was very much needed and the first thing that he thought about was hanging out with someone he had known for quite some time. The firefighter quickly sent out a text to Aiden, just to make sure that he was home, before climbing into his Acura and setting the bottle down on the floor. After a short drive he parked on the streets, near the the building where the man lived, and checked his messages to make sure that Aiden was actually there. Elliot grabbed the bottle of wine and went up to the doctorâs apartment, smiling widely as he knocked on the door. Once it was open the first thing that he did was raise the bottle up in the air, presenting it to his best friend. âFigured we could wind down. I was going to drink some and take a bath back home, but I wanted some company.â
( like this for a starter. )
