can you go into more detail on the swing maneuver for helping choking rabbits pls?? it was hard to understand your wording... how do you support their bodies?? what would the hand positioning be on an adult bunny, like the size of a mini lop, or even above?? do you mean hold the rabbit up at your own face level with its nose pointed down like an upside down ketchup bottle and swing down in an arc like youre trying to get the ketchup to come out?? thats the way i understood what you wrote, but i do admittedly have reading comprehension issues sometimes so id like to hear more detail. im trying to gather all of the information i can before i look into getting rabbits of my own, and knowing what to do when a pet is choking is very vital in my book and i hadnt found any guides or anything on the topic before.
thank you for all you do for the kits, and thank you for sharing your work on them and for sharing your own wonderful bunnies too 💜
Absolutely!
You want to hold your bunny so one arm is under their body, between back and front legs while the other holds the shoulders and head still to stabilize the neck and is sorta laying across their spine.
The first posture is correct because the neck and spine is stable. Not shown well but hus fingers on the underside of the rabbit are on the chest (sternum) between the front legs. Your fingers can also steady by holding the front legs between them like so:
The second (in the first image marked incorrect) is incorrect because the neck is not stable and if the bunny thrashes it will snap it's spine or sustain damage from the swing.
Hold the rabbit up at your head level, then in an arc, swing the rabbit downwards so its nose points to the ground. You want to do this with moderate force to dislodge the mass or fluid in the airways but not so fast that you are swinging so hard it hurts the bunny.
