i dont like how some of you act about toshiro and in addition falin.

yes he's a conflict averse loser and couldve conveyed his discomfort clearer, but he was a singular asian man in a foreign continent. how would he know how laios will react if he outright says his discomfort? how would he know laios WILL accordingly adjust his behaviour then? it was just his luck he met the most socially inept guy in a mile radius and had that guy stuck to him for being a Rare Eastern Person. laios literally stuck to him because he deemed toshiro exotic and exciting in his novelty, btw, calls him the wrong name despite correcting. he thought toshiro's favorite meal is rice. those are racist microaggressions despite no malice on laios' part! do you really think toshiro would think THAT GUY wouldve understood if he talked to him just clearly enough? toshiro, who had lived his entire life in a culture where nonverbal ways to convey underlying meanings had always sufficed? from his point of view he HAD conveyed his discomfort clearly enough!

"ugh the show is full of autistic people, it's his own fault he didn't talk like an adult!" laios is literally the ONLY guy the story keeps highlighting the social ineptitude of, btw. both for failure to read social cues and his tendency for being intense or pushing boundaries when his interests are piqued. if this happened with literally any other person from the show they wouldve understood toshiro no problem. maybe not with izutsumi, because thats a bratty teenager. or falin, but she wouldnt have pushed his boundaries in the first place!!! so much for an all autistic cast, which even if they all are, why are you expecting a man from fantasy medieval japan to 1.) know what autism even is 2.) understand which traits are autistic and in turn if a person is autistic or not 3.) know how to accomodate these autistic people accordingly?!?!? and how are you SO sure that toshiro himself, a withdrawn, quiet son who was at odds his outgoing and sloppy dad, isnt autistic HIMSELF???? and this is disregarding the word of god from ryoko kui that explicitly said she didnt intend laios to be an autistic person!

'well yeah but if they switched genders things will be flipped' thats literally wrong. like ryoko kui had made a short comic about that and they literally ended up in different paths. laios wouldve became an unhappy housewife while falin wouldve took an academic path with male marcille. yes they look alike but even their expressions are different! BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE!!!!

i think its gross that toshiro is called sexist, a manic pixie dream girl chaser, or whatever. like the moment where he fell in love with falin was because she was gentle even towards a bug. meanwhile growing up the women he knew are either his caretaker who pushed him around or gutsy female warriors. he doesn't meet gentle beauties often. now had laios ever had a gentle moment with a bug or monster? can you even imagine that? no, he wouldve excitedly, loudly blabber about it instead. he wove a stick with spider eggs sac around as a kid. laios and falin are different. you people yelling sexist is also you conveniently flattening falin's character into being Female Laios instead her own being. so toshiro is sexist, but laios isnt racist? you people LOVE when marcille treat laios and falin differently btw like ive seen it. is it because its yuri? isnt that sexist of you then?

if you bring up the genderbent comic you might say "oh but fem toshiro is in love with male laios though" i will disagree. because to me the expression reads like toshiro-chan is creeped out by laios's weirdness instead. but we may never know for sure i suppose.

and monsters. toshiro didnt have problem with monsters specifically, thats kabru! toshiro literally had a flashback where he was playing with bugs--he wouldve had less problem w monsters than marcille or kabru. but imagine being stretched fucking thin trying to save your crush inside a dangerous dungeon, then you see your crush's brother all cheery and shit telling you about the tasty monsters he tried. like why wouldnt you flip the fuck out? lock in you bastard, your sister is literally in danger, transmutated!!! what do you mean youre gonna eat her!!!!!!!

and all these are no hate to laios btw. laios is actually a bigger blorbo to me than toshiro. i thirst over him like most of you. i love that white chocolate. but god your reflex to defend a white man above all else is a problem. ive seen how violent some of you feel about toshiro, wanting marcille to beat him up, wanting him to die, etc. all for punching your autistic white blorbo, with a justifiable reason, while getting punched back, after making up with your blorbo, after gifting him a thing to monitor his safety with. and calling him incel...? well yeah he immediately proposed, thats the middle ages! but he backed up after rejection, he was respectful about it!! also who knows how long have they known eachother, the flashbacks didnt specify that. toshiro actively tried to know her through dates first too. like what do you even want from him, what justified calling him that????

do you realize the fault being put in toshiro's hands only is almost like expecting a person of a minority to stop microaggressions on their own through communicating and educating the bigots? like toshiro couldve went about it better, or he couldve left, but its not only his fault you know?

although i gotta admit its funny seeing a male character being hated for being in the way of a yuri ship. the first male to ever get the sakura/uraraka treatment. we are in never before explored territory here wow...

This has definitely been said before but I really hate it when people say that Toshiro from Dunegon Meshi is a hypocrite for hating Laios but loving Falin when they’re both so similar. Because, from what I understand, the main similarity between Falin and Laios is their avid interest in monsters and this implies that the thing Toshiro “hates” about Laios is his interest in monsters.

But that’s not it, what Toshiro “hates” about Laios is his lack of social awareness and inability to pick up on social cues. In contrast, Falin is actually able to read the room to some degree. Anyways, I need to see way less “Falin and Laios are the same person” posts cause they’re all stupid.

i feel like not enough ppl are factoring in the cultural clash between laios and shuro and the many micro agressions shuro faced while being in their group. literally the name 'shuro' in itself is one

his name is toshiro 😭 lets also not forget that he has his own communication issues, in the opposite way that laios does- thats literally a factor in their argument, that his envy for laios's ability to express himself sincerely manifested as part of his distaste for him.

ig all this to say like, was their fight heart wrenching, especially when reading laios as autistic? absolutely. anybody whos ever been in laios's position knows how much it hurts to realize someone you thought was your friend doesnt actually like having you around, especially when they didnt tell you and you had no way of knowing due to not understanding their cues. but im begging yall to step back and see the nuance of this situation cause im gonna be real a lot of you are kinda just brushing over it acting like everything is toshiros fault and that hes a terrible person when in reality hes an average guy who really, really clashed with laios and it led to a very long misunderstanding due to their supremely opposite methods of communication. even laios and toshiro, after letting everything out in their fight, were able to come to an understanding and start a foundation for an actual friendship built on better communication

ok yknow what Edit: i shouldve made it even more explicit at the end of this post, i hadnt thought i would need to since i started the post with this, but i think a few too many people are missing my point so i just wanna clarify. i shouldnt have said 'really clashed' and left it at that because yeah they did, but it wasnt just their opposite methods of communication, it is also very much that toshiro was experiencing microaggressions via laios. it may have been unintentional on laios's part, but it still happened and wore him down, made it harder for him to communicate on top of both the more subtle social cues that he was raised with and his own communication difficulties. i also want to say that the fandom reaction to toshiro and the complete ignorance of this point is also racist tbh or at the very least ignorant. i understand that the anime did not cover this panel, and neither did the manga, as this was an omake, but im gonna be real with you guys. there are enough context clues within the story to clue you into this. if you didnt pick up on it thats ok, but i think this is a good lesson in picking up subtext in the stories that youre watching and/or reading. kui shouldnt have to explicitly say 'by the way laios was racist to toshiro' for this point to be understood, and at the very least, when the author portrays a character in a sympathetic light (as kui clearly does) it should make you question Why they are doing so and what makes them sympathetic, rather than youre immediate and only reaction to be 'well i hated what this guy did/said so i hate them and they suck'. idk exactly how to finish this, just. idk. question your biases and gut reactions to things you see in media and stories, and think about whether or not theres subtext that youre missing.
