Hank Hill is the only conservative I’ll defend.
Accepted the idea of his church hiring a lady pastor. It took him a little while but he got there.
Encouraged his wife to stay friends with a group of Drag Queens because it improved her self esteem about being a woman with more masculine qualities.
Anti big Corporation. Fuck Mega-Low-Mart
Got Dale to reconnect with his gay father. Didn’t give one fuck about him being gay.
Loved his strange little son.
Was distraught at the idea of being racist and not realizing it.
Strong moral integrity. UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO BE THE “ MORAL MAJORITY”
Stood up for Halloween as a fun holiday and didn’t let the Evangelicals win. Despite being a Christian.
Let his wife beat up their son so he didn’t grow up into an abusive asshole.
Can sew is not ashamed
Maybe not at first, but always overjoyed to see his son be proficient in any task he sets his mind too
Will kick the ass of any bully.
Destroyed the house of a rich asshole when its cheap construction threatened the safety of his neighborhood.
not my tweet or my fic (and there’s a good chance of this comment being a bot) but yeah, don’t do this. sure, some writers wouldn’t mind having fanfics (or direct continuation) of their fanfics written by someone else. some may even be thrilled and happy. but the fandom etiquette is that if you want to write a fanfic or a continuation of someone’s fanfic, YOU POLITELY ASK THE WRITER FOR THEIR PERMISSION. not their readers.
also 5 months isn’t long at all. 5 months is 5 minutes when it comes to fanfics. I’ve waited years for my favorite fics to get updated (one of my favorite fanfics was updated by the author after 13 years) and I’ve never said anything to them about “it’s been ___ years, I don’t think it will get updated anymore”. because another fandom / fanfic etiquette is that fanfic writers write for free in their free time, they don’t owe you anything. maybe they will update one day. maybe they won’t. if you want your favorite fic to get updated, you comment something like “this is good!! I’m excited for what happens next” and maybe your positive comment will motivate the author to update. but you don’t say “it’s been ___ months or years”. fanfics writers write for themselves and their own enjoyment. they’re just kind enough to let you read their works for free. stop being rude and entitled to fanfic writers.
how come ao3 has to be so carefull about the exchange of money for fanfic, but visual fanworks dont seem to have the same issue? do big IPs care more about fanfic, or is ao3 just way more cautious than other art sites.
I have already answered this here
“some people have already explained why "fanfic commissions" are riskier than "fan art commissions". I can't quote their exact words, but it's something about fan art being "more difficult to prove that the characters were others' copyrighted material". meanwhile with fanfics, it can be easily proved that it's from other people's copyrighted material and is being illegally monetized.”
but no, ao3 isn’t “just more cautious”, it’s doing exactly what it has to do. it’s not just about being cautious. I believe they would definitely get in legal trouble if they didn’t have this strict “no money involved” rule. why? because while art sites aren’t mainly known for fan art of copyrighted characters—it’s known for art in general (so original art, not fan art)—ao3 is known for fanfics of copyrighted characters. it was made with the purpose of hosting fanfics of copyrighted characters.
other writing sites like wattpad allow monetization because, unlike ao3, their platforms aren’t mainly about fanfiction.
to make it simpler:
art-hosting platforms: made mainly for original art, occasionally host fan art, are not non-profit organizations, monetization is allowed.
wattpad: made mainly for original works, occasionally hosts fanfics, is not a non-profit organization, monetization is allowed (but even then, the monetization of fanfics is not allowed there, users can only monetize their own original works).
ao3: made mainly for fanfics of copyrighted characters, occasionally hosts original works, is a non-profit organization, monetization legally cannot be allowed.
I need tiktokers to understand that ao3 has been home for the freaks (affectionate) ever since the day it was created. the entire site was created because “dark and fucked up fics” were banned and removed from other platforms, so us freaks came together and created a site for other freaks — a site where nothing is censored, a site with no algorithm, no capitalism, no ads, and again, absolutely no censorship.
this has been our house for decades. you newbies don’t come into our house and tell us how to arrange our furniture. either be nice and respect our house, or leave and build your own house elsewhere.
They'd fit right in over at fanfiction.net 🙃
Yalls house sucks and is full of allegations and is sus af and should be investigated lmfao
if you report fanfiction to police and tell them they should “investigate this because fictional children are being harmed in these fanfiction and I don’t like it!!!!!”, you will get either of these outcomes:
the police will laugh at your face
they will investigate fanfiction, and while they waste their time investigating fanfiction and victimless “crimes”, real children are being hurt elsewhere, and you are taking the police’s time and resources away from these real children. so instead of doing something to actually help save real children, police are too busy trying to protect fictional ones that exist only in fantasies
also ao3 abides by american laws, so actually everything that is posted on the site is legal in america. and no, it’s not “child abuse” or “rape” or “csem” if the “victims” are fictional characters who were harmed in a fictional world (I believe that’s why it’s legal and allowed).
you don’t have to like it. you can find it extremely disgusting. but whether or not you like it, your personal discomfort is not law. for the record, anything that involves (fictional) children in sexual situations makes me super uncomfortable. so I just… don’t seek out fics that I know will make me uncomfortable. it is in fact that easy.
if you are allergic to peanut butter and you swallow a spoonful of peanut butter, knowing damn well that you are allergic, then the one who’s to blame is you. peanut butter alone will not and cannot hurt you unless you shove it in your mouth.
again, having no censorship is the entire point of ao3. you don’t have to like it. no one forces you to use the site, with all the donations ao3 is receiving, it’s doing just fine without you.
My Dead Space fan art from 2023.
Which is your favourite game in the series? Let me know in the comments.
two things that can and should coexist: writing fanfiction for yourself as a form of self-care slash comfort and appreciating kind comments given by your readers, as well as using these encouraging comments as a source of motivation to write more fics
ao3 turns 16 today.
