Hadley raised her brows at the girl, trying to hold in her laugh. “I listened perfectly well thank you very much. You act as if they’re going to fucking tell you if they like mushrooms of not.”
“Animals aren’t fucking stupid. If they don’t like something they won’t eat. it. Guess what that is? That’s them telling you they don’t like it. You just have to listen.”

“ what makes you think that you are worth my time ? ” he questioned, his british accent dragging out his words, expressing his boredom with the girl. “ if you’re going to fucking talk to me then try sitting further away, like a bloody leech or something. ”
“Because if I definitely wasn’t, you’d have told me to leave by now.” Elphie shrugged. “Right. Personal space or whatever.” Taking a scoot away from him she tucked her hair behind one ear. “Also because I’m bored and getting fucked up alone is shit.” Putting down her bag she pulled out a bottle of jose cuervo, putting it between them. “Don’t even have to talk. We can just drink.”

“ fucking rude. ” he muttered as he looked down toward her outstretched hand, to which he raised an eyebrow at before rolling his eyes and going back to sniff his second line.
“It’s also fucking rude to ignore when someone introduces themselves.” Elphie said back, watching him do another line. “So what else do you do for fun other than coke, dolces? You might be a rude fuck but you don’t seem stuffy like some of the people I’ve met.”

jude’s eyes travelled toward the peculiar girl before his eyebrows knotted together and an annoyed look came onto his face. “ did i say you could sit ? ”
“Don’t think you did.” Elphie said, looking straight back at the boy. “Thankful for me, I didn’t ask your permission nor am I looking for it.” She paused a second before holding out her hand to him, “Delphine.”

“ got it ma’am, ” bethany muttered, nodding faintly as she looked at the other female. she had been slightly taken aback by the other’s sudden words, but simply bit onto her lower lip. “ we were never taught about the native americans and their situation, i believe. they were really that horrible ? i never knew. they simply went on and on about british history and europe’s colonies. ”
“If you ever call me ma’am again I will literally set your bed on fire.” Delphine said with a straight face. Of course she wasn’t kidding either, though she didn’t intend it harshly. “It’s either Delphine or Elphie.” For the first time she flashed the other some semblance of a smile. “Ah. Well, Papi sent me to a good school. Took a class on it. Even back then the people in power didn’t give a shit about anyone but themselves.”

“And how do you propose I do that?”

Hadley stared at the girl in front of her and her bizarre question completely catching her off guard. She had to be on something, she thought. “Ducks can’t fucking talk in case you didn’t know.”
“Actually, all that tells me is that you don’t listen very fucking well.” Her tone came out slightly defensive, Delphine taking a quick breath to calm herself.

“Doubt it- there’d be a search party out in like 2 hours. We could drop you down there; you can hang out with your little ducks. Whatever, they’re just ducks anyways.”
“And I doubt that. I have better things to do than find my way out of a sewer, though I’m sure I’d be far better at it than you. Oh? Now they’re just ducks? A minute ago it sounded like you actually cared about them.”

“Actually, my cute little heart can’t take that sorta stuff anymore.”
“Well at least you’re still pretty then. Party a little too hard, Blondie?”

“I think they’d be able to find their own food. Why don’t you actually help them and try to get them out of the sewer?”
“How about we drop you in the sewer and see if you can find your own food. I’m sure it’d pan out just the same with the baby ducks. It’s darwinism. Survival of the fittest. If they’re meant to live, they will.”
lowebethany:
a small groan fell from the blonde’s lips as she heard the other’s words, makin her throw her head back for a second. “ okay, fine, i was a little distracted, ” she admitted in a mutter, before looking back to elphie. “ i actually didn’t know about that ? i donn’t think we were ever taught that back in scotland. ”
“Now next time you’re distracted own your shit. No one likes a ditzy, spaced blonde unless they know she’s gonna give it up later in the night-- and from the looks of you I think that might be out of the question.” Elphie said back, tilting her head slightly to the side, her eyes not breaking contact from Bethany’s. “Mm, yes, well all you really need to know is the people that colonized the united states were heartless, greedy bastards who didn’t care about the people who were already there.”

“Probably a smart decision.”
“Hm. But you’re awfully cute too and I’m sure your heart could handle it, yeah?”

the blonde’s thoughts had trailed off as her eyes fixated on the text message she had gotten from her father that second. the ongoing conversation slowly travelled to the back of her mind as she read the text up until the other’s comment. “ what ? i was totally listening to you, ” bethany muttered, slightly in panic as she tucked her phone back into her pocket, “ that sounds like a great idea ! ”
Elphie studied the blonde quietly for a moment before speaking up again. “If you were listening to me you would have heard the name Simeon Ecuyer. The man who gave smallpox blankets to Native Americans to kill them with germ warfare. If that sounds like a great idea you should keep those thoughts to yourself.”

“Yeah, I’m not too sure about the eating habits of ducks. I’ve never really paid attention to them before.”
“Mm, then what do you pay attention to? The stock market? You look like what my father calls Wall Street scum potential. I think ducks are important enough to pay attention to.”

“Like drug shrooms?”
“Oh no. I don’t share my shrooms with ducks. I don’t think their little hearts would be able to handle the trip.”

“Well technically you’re not really supposed to be feeding the bread, but go ahead and be a bird killer.”
“If I wanted to kill them I wouldn’t feed them at all and I’d let them die as horribly hungry little sewer ducks. Quite frankly they’ll probably die down there anyways. At least they’ll have a full stomach.”
“I saw a few baby ducks fall into the sewer grate outside yesterday. I’m going out there to feed them. With bread, lots of bread. Do ducks like mushrooms? I've never asked them. Maybe I’ll take some of those down too…” Elphie trailed off, tilting her head in thought.
