Mirrors
Write a poem using the first line of your fav song:
I'll use you as a warning sign - That if I see enough spots I know I am losing my mind Because you reflect what I am.
You are the mirror that has hanged on that wall for far too long Seeing faces - mostly the sad ones And you took a bit of them inside you
Every time someone stood there Their insides whispering how wrong they look You took a blotch, a white patch That no solution could clean
I try everything to scrub those blotches from the mirror that hangs in the room How do I erase something clean when the blotches were nothing but The doubts that held a spot within me.
I will try harder, I promise To look in the mirror and not whisper why you so dark, why so fat why so out of shape Then maybe the blotches on that Mirror will disappear

#NaPoWriMo - Day 02
Hello Ammu,
So you got that pretty pink bicycle It’s so tall your feet won’t reach the ground Yes, you fell in the big brown puddle It is okay, in the days to come You will beat guys in cycle road rash Keep playing those games at 4 Start with a hide-seek in the colony Then a bit of badminton until it becomes dark For you to see, so you sit for UNO.
Now you will take your diary And write the same story and worry about studies Let me tell you, you did great So take a break and know it will be okay
I love how you take care of Elna and Elmi Holding their fingers tight in each palm But it is okay to let them go for a while Also okay for you to play and act 12
Hold those books closer You are only going fall for them further And years later thank yourself for being a writer So go on, read as much as you can It is okay you can’t play sports Or dance or sing, you were made to write, my love.
I know that aunt is coming tonight She will comment on your plum hands again Eat less she will say Eat to your content I say Don’t let them get to your head Your perfect with your plump little curves
Don’t worry so much about the future I have been there and trust me You did just fine Yes, all through it, you did just fine Now go to sleep and dream of peter pan
P.S. Let me tell you a secret – A puppy is coming home soon, the universe heard that wish when you blew out your birthday candles. So, next time don’t forget to wish, they are listening.
Love, A much curvier Ammu

#NaPoWriMo Day 01Â
She can barely stand now,
Six months and her belly is already weighing her down
How do I look into her eyes and tell
I got no money for her or the baby
I see the mirror and on that side stands a man
His hand gently placed over the swollen belly of his wife
He looks worried and happy all at the same time
One glance at me, he walks away from the picture
whispering I will do it for them.
 A night
A fire,
An accident later
Facing the mirror now I stand,
Alone, no wife, no child to accompany
No man on the other end just me
But with scars, and a face painted white and red
Labeled the mad man
Now I stand to make the world
The trick of my circus
Wait till you hear my joke
Wait till you hear my laugh.

Mumbai - I’m Here
With two huge suitcases and a head full of dreams when I landed here, it was nothing like the Mumbai I imagined it would be. Dragging my enormously huge suitcase I get off the railway station and three thoughts simultaneously whack my brain –
one – my good lord that is a lot of people here,
two – I can’t breathe it is too stuffy, my nose can’t feel fresh air,
three – it stinks man, it STINKS.
With my palm, I clam shut my nose, (who is already on a strike and is plotting revenge) find a taxi and head straight to my hotel.
Don’t mind the introduction, that was just the initial phase, over the course of 10 months a lot has changed. Stay tuned to know what Mumbai had in store for me.
