Okay so... um. Asking for a friend. How DO you get one of those green ties? Like, earn it, not uh... steal it.
“The easiest path to a tie is through hard work. Of course, hard work is only one factor that can get Mr. Dedan’s attention, since the DCC is a motley crew of characters he’s gathered up from all corners of Zone One.
But---mm. Let me share the story of how I came to get this tie of mine.
One day, Mr. Dedan was in a fouler mood than normal after an incident. He shouted at some delivery Elsen who broke bottles of smoke, which looked like it might result in a burnt epidemic. So I hurried over. Offered to fetch Mr. Dedan coffee and to ensure the mess was taken care of. He gave me half an hour to get it done and bring that coffee to his office. I did as instructed, as quickly as possible. Afterwards, Mr. Dedan asked me why I didn’t panic like the others had done—which was a simple enough question to answer.
‘I don’t scare easily’. Its a good and bad quality.
I can handle stressful situations—but my ‘fight or flee’ sense is a little broken. That’s why I work at Shachihata, actually; I wasn’t suited to the mines.
…Mr. Dedan found it to be a useful quality, though. And the fact that my penmanship was good on top of that was only an added plus. Then he had me rewrite all the requisition forms and incident reports he’d received for the month so he could go over them and understand their contents.
…I guess he was pleased with my work, because; next thing I knew, I wasn’t a supervisor for the reception floor anymore; I’d been promoted to a station in Alma, to work as his personal messenger and paperwork assistant.
And with this promotion, came the green striped tie you’ve asked about.
…Its a good job—and the pay is certainly nice; but I’m getting off topic. The point I’m trying to make is that Mr. Dedan will award you a tie if you have qualities he finds useful; though, ultimately, having a good work ethic will give you a better chance at earning such a tie in the first place. So, in conclusion?
Work hard - and be yourself.
Maybe you’ll get a tie. Maybe not. But certainly don’t steal one. The DCC are hand-picked by Mr. Dedan himself. He’ll notice someone who’s not assigned a green tie in a hot second—and we’ll more than likely end up fishing you out of the plastic pools around Zone One with a net if he catches you.”
