Is that ELLEN POMPEO? No, that’s just ELSPETH DECKER. They were born on 20/10/1986 and are a SELENA SHAPESHIFTER/VAMPIRE HYBRID living in Northknot Town. They work as an ER NURSE. Some say they're PROTECTIVE and COURAGEOUS, but I’ve heard others say they're GUARDED and STUBBORN. When you think of HER, don’t you think of A COFFEE CUP ABANDONED BESIDE MEDICAL CHARTS, LAUGHTER CUTTING THROUGH THE BOYS’ CLUB, & HANDS STEADIER THAN HER HEART?

HEADCANONS
Elspeth drinks her coffee way too strong, like it’s basically motor oil, and insists she can still sleep after
She still has the old toy cars her brother gave her as a kid, tucked away in a box she swears she’ll show her child one day
She hums to herself while charting at work—usually old songs she doesn’t even realize she remembers
Despite hating dresses as a kid, she owns one perfect little black dress that she secretly loves wearing when no one else is around
She’s terrible at baking (burns cookies every single time) but is the queen of throwing together an oddly good meal from scraps
She always carries a pocket knife or multitool—it’s her weird comfort item
Elspeth pretends she’s not sentimental, but her nightstand drawer is full of folded notes, ticket stubs, and photos
She knows first aid way beyond nurse-level because of her shapeshifter side and years of “what if” situations
She talks to her car like it’s alive (and gets genuinely mad if anyone else mistreats it)
Elspeth has a scar from her turning—hidden, but it burns sometimes when she’s stressed
She has a guilty-pleasure obsession with space documentaries (old dream never really died)
She sometimes wears her kid’s old friendship bracelets under her scrubs, hidden from sight, like armor
She’s way softer with animals than she’ll ever admit; stray cats basically adopt her
APPEARANCE
Elspeth has the kind of beauty that sneaks up on you—unassuming at first glance, but magnetic the longer you look. Striking yet approachable, with a face that carries both warmth and steel. Her eyes, sharp and expressive, have a way of cutting straight through the noise, softening only when she’s with someone she trusts. Years of ER shifts have etched a quiet resilience into her features, giving her that effortlessly “I’ve seen it all” kind of poise. Her hair, often left in practical waves or pulled back for work, frames her face in a way that highlights her natural glow rather than hiding it. She dresses with ease—jeans, scrubs, worn-in leather jackets—never one to fuss with fashion, but always somehow put together. There’s an understated grace to the way she carries herself: confident, capable, the kind of presence that makes you feel both safe and seen.
PERSONALITY
Elspeth is the kind of woman who carries both fire and tenderness in the same breath. She’s resilient to her core—someone who’s been broken open by life more than once but has always found a way to stitch herself back together, often stronger, sharper, softer in the right places. Her tomboy streak never faded; she’s still the type to roll her eyes at frills and lace, but underneath that rough-and-ready exterior is a heart that aches deeply for connection and belonging. She’s fiercely loyal, protective of those she loves to the point of self-destruction, and stubborn as hell when she believes she’s right. Elspeth masks her lingering insecurities with humor and grit, often overextending herself to prove her worth, but she’s learning—slowly—that her value doesn’t hinge on anyone else’s approval. She’s blunt, grounded, quick to act in a crisis, but she’s also a little sentimental, the kind of person who cries at unexpected moments and treasures the quiet bonds that tether her to the world. Ultimately, she’s a survivor, a caregiver, and a fighter, with a spark that refuses to be snuffed out.
AESTHETIC
hospital corridors at midnight - the scent of antiseptic clinging to scrubs - coffee cooling on the counter beside her - leather jacket draped over a chair - stethoscope tangled in the pocket - lipstick smudged from a twelve-hour shift - a shoebox under the bed full of ticket stubs, notes, and bracelets she swears she’ll never throw away - headlights cutting through rain on an empty road - music blasting loud enough to drown out her thoughts - kitchen light at 2 a.m., barefoot with a glass of wine - laughter soft and tired spilling between friends - the sharp bite of winter air against her skin - cigarette smoke curling even though she doesn’t smoke anymore - black scrubs and combat boots - hair messy but eyes sharp, steady in chaos while the world spins - a quiet apartment filled with houseplants she forgets to water but somehow survive anyway - scars that only ache when it storms, reminders of what she’s endured and what she’s become - the hush of a city at dawn, sun breaking over rooftops as she finally heads home, bone-tired but alive
CONNECTIONS
Elspeth Jr. (Catriona) The center of her universe, even if she’s terrible at admitting it out loud. They’ve weathered hospital shifts, takeout dinners, and too many late nights waiting for mom to come home. Their relationship’s built on stubborn love, sarcasm, and the occasional shouting match, but there’s no question Elspeth would burn down the world for them.
Patients Repeat flyers who keep ending up in her ER and form a weird bond with her. Could be comic relief or something heavier
Romantic Messes Past flings (men or women) who didn’t last, current casual flames who want more, or the one person she can’t shake
Single Parent Solidarity Other parents in town she connects with over raising kids alone
Her Kid’s Friends Teenagers/young adults who hung around her house, maybe even look at her like a second parent
Ride-or-Die Best Friend Someone who knows all her mess and still shows up for her, day or night
Bar Regulars The people she bumps into on her nights off when she needs to breathe outside of the hospital

"The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud."
Elspeth was born a human shapeshifter, the second child of a complicated family. Her mother already had a son with a man who had passed, and Elspeth grew up idolizing her big brother, chasing after his every move. She was a tomboy to her bones—roughhousing, playing sports, fixing up cars, never to be caught dead in a dress. Beneath the grease-stained hands and scraped knees, though, was a quiet love for math and science, a nerdy streak she mostly kept hidden. She dreamed of being an astronaut, or maybe a doctor. Big dreams for a girl who never felt quite good enough.
Her father kept his distance—not out of apathy, but out of a misguided attempt to shield her from her mother’s sharp tongue. Elspeth, too young to understand, internalized the absence as proof she wasn’t worth staying for. Her mother, though loving in her way, was a snob—demanding, critical, intent on molding her children into her image. It was her older brother who gave her room to breathe, telling her over and over to be herself.
“To love is to recognize yourself in another.”
After high school, Elspeth went on to study nursing, determined to carve her own future. But university cut her open in ways she never expected. She fell into an abusive relationship that nearly ended her life, by his hands and her own. When she became pregnant, he threatened, bribed, and ultimately abandoned her—too young and too selfish to be a parent. Elspeth thought she’d marry him. Instead, she gave birth at nineteen to a child who became her anchor, her tether to this world when she might have otherwise drifted away. With the help of her family, she raised her baby and finished school.
She passed her boards, threw herself into the chaos of an ER residency, and found her calling in the rush and the necessity of it all. ER nurses, she knew from experience, were the lifeblood of the hospital. Life steadied. She dated again—men and women both—never settling, but never losing the dream of love and family. By her late twenties, she had earned her CEN certification and worked her way up to lead nurse.
"I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship."
At twenty-eight, tragedy cracked her family open once again. Her aunt died, and when her younger cousin was shunned for not attending the funeral, Elspeth refused to play along with the cruelty. Her parents tried to gaslight her into compliance, insisting she was the problem. She chose truth instead, cut ties, and left with her child. She argued with her brother over his silence, but never lost contact with him.
For a time, Elspeth made a home in Seattle. It was there, through a partner, that she learned of Northknot—a place where people like her could exist without masks. She moved in the fall of 2018, starting over once more. Northknot gave her sanctuary: a job, friends, a mentor. And when she was in her mid-thirties, she made the choice to let that mentor, Lucien Blackthorne, turn her into a vampire. The transition was jarring, but she adapted, folding her shapeshifter roots into the new hunger. Since then, she has lived quietly, working, raising her child, and fumbling her way through love.
"The wound is the place where the light enters you."
Now, at thirty-eight, her child is grown and in school. Elspeth remains the ER’s steady, unflinching lead nurse. She is technically in a relationship—though she refuses to label it—and for once, she is content. She is still scarred, still stubborn, still a woman shaped by grief, abuse, and betrayal, but she has also learned tenderness, devotion, and joy.
Elspeth is equal parts fire and shadow, pragmatism and heart, steel and softness. A survivor who knows exactly how much she’s lost, and exactly what she’s gained.
